				<title>RESUMEN</title>
				<p>El origen y evolución del Movimiento de Pioneros Exploradores encuentra criterios diversos entre los estudiosos del tema y quienes lo practican; unos lo asocian a los Boy Scouts o los exploradores; otros, al aporte de las tradiciones combativas y de lucha del pueblo cubano por su independencia nacional. Demostrar esta última afirmación es objetivo del presente trabajo, para lo cual se emplearon los métodos analítico-sintético, inductivo-deductivo y análisis de documentos de la historia de Cuba, diarios de campaña, libros y diversos materiales del acervo socio-cultural que, en su examen fecundo y sustancioso, confirmaron los elementos probatorios que originaron esta investigación.</p>

			<title>Introducción</title>
			<p>En relación con el origen y evolución del Movimiento de Pioneros Exploradores, en lo adelante (MPE), existen posiciones diversas entre guías, instructores, investigadores y estudiosos del tema. Por un lado, existen los que aseguran que tiene su origen en los Boy Scouts<xref ref-type="fn" rid="fn1">1</xref> y, por el otro, los que explican su nacimiento y desarrollo a partir de la experiencia acumulada por el pueblo cubano en sus luchas por la liberación nacional y social.</p>
			<p>En el estudio de la producción científica sobre el MPE, se analizaron las obras de destacados investigadores, significativas para esta indagación, que se detallan posteriormente, así como los documentos metodológicos de la Organización de Pioneros José Martí (2005-2024), donde lo conciben desde lo sociológico, lo patriótico, o como un valioso instrumento para la educación ambiental y la formación integral de los estudiantes a partir de las actividades que en él se desarrollan, dirigidas a la consolidación de valores, normas de conductas y modos de actuación; pero no reconocen, en su generalidad, el aporte de la gesta independentista cubana a su origen, desarrollo y evolución histórica.</p>
			<p>En la praxis del MPE se aprecian limitaciones entre los guías, instructores e investigadores del tema, asociadas a la falta de conocimientos sobre sus antecedentes y evolución histórica; la vinculación de los contenidos con las experiencias de las gestas independentistas cubanas y el batallar del pueblo por subsistir frente a las limitaciones que el cerco imperial les ha impuesto, así como, la existencia de criterios divergentes sobre su origen patriótico y sociocultural. En correspondencia, se propone como problema a resolver ¿cómo demostrar que el Movimiento de Pioneros Exploradores se sustenta en las aportaciones heredadas de las luchas del pueblo cubano por su liberación nacional y social y no exclusivamente, de los Boy Scouts?</p>
			<p>Es propósito de los autores de esta investigación, demostrar<xref ref-type="fn" rid="fn2">2</xref> que las raíces del MPE se encuentran en las experiencias acumuladas por el pueblo cubano en su lucha por la independencia nacional, la soberanía y la justicia social. Para ello, se emplearon los métodos análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción y análisis documental, que aportaron los elementos probatorios para la solución del problema científico declarado.</p>

			<title>Desarrollo</title>
			<p>La convicción de que existe una estrecha relación entre la lucha nacional y social liberadora del pueblo cubano, y, el origen, desarrollo y consolidación del MPE en la actualidad, emana del conocimiento de la historia de Cuba y del estudio de la obra de José Martí y de Fidel Castro, expuestas en diarios de campañas, documentos históricos, discursos, imágenes y testimonios expresados en diversas fuentes documentales fidedignas.</p>
			<p>El contenido del MPE ha sido analizado desde su alcance, dimensión real en la sociedad cubana, y su aporte a la formación patriótica, ambiental, solidaria, revolucionaria e integral de los estudiantes, por los investigadores, Trelles (1985); Labarrere y Valdivia (1988); Turner (1994); Bonet (2001); Domínguez (2003); Acosta, Pérez, Toledo &amp; Águila (2019). Por su parte, Mosquera (2005), Martínez (2011); Fernández y Guzmán (2016), lo consideran, además, como el medio idóneo para canalizar las inquietudes de los pioneros, relacionadas con la exploración y el campismo, el conocimiento de la naturaleza, la marcha, la observación, la preparación física y la supervivencia, orientadas a la preparación de sus miembros para la vida en campaña.</p>
			<p>De igual manera, es reconocido como una organización social especializada de participación masiva que prepara a sus miembros para la vida en campaña desde las múltiples actividades que realizan, encauzadas a enriquecer los sentimientos patrióticos vinculados a las tradiciones combativas y de lucha del pueblo cubano, (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Ávalos &amp; Martínez, 2014</xref>). Es valorado, además, como el Movimiento que agrupa a los pioneros y pioneras de primero a noveno grados para realizar actividades en contacto directo con la naturaleza, enfocadas a la preparación para la vida en zonas costeras y el mar, para contribuir a la formación de valores éticos, morales, patrióticos y antiimperialistas (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Acosta, 2022</xref>).</p>
			<p>Los criterios expuestos corroboran consenso entre los investigadores, al reconocer que el MPE propicia el conocimiento de las tradiciones combativas y de lucha del pueblo cubano, aspecto este que ha sido poco investigado, y que es fuente de valores, base del trabajo patriótico, la educación ambiental, así como de la preparación de los pioneros para la vida en campaña. El estudio teórico realizado por los autores y sus resultados como investigadores, unido a la experiencia del autor principal durante 33 años en el MPE, miembro de su Consejo Asesor y su historiador a nivel Nacional, han permitido elaborar una definición más integradora y ajustada a las transformaciones actuales.</p>
			<p>Al respecto, se considera al MPE como el movimiento de la Organización de Pioneros José Martí que agrupa, de manera voluntaria y masiva, a los niños y adolescentes cubanos de primero a noveno grados, quienes, autorizados por los padres y conducidos por los guías e instructores, se preparan para la vida en condiciones de campaña, mediante la realización de múltiples actividades terrestres y marinas en contacto directo con el medio socio-natural, dirigidas a consolidar su formación patriótica, ambiental, revolucionaria, solidaria e integral, para satisfacer las expectativas de aprendizaje sobre el campismo, el excursionismo, la exploración y la supervivencia, vinculados a las tradiciones combativas y de lucha del pueblo cubano.</p>
			<p>El MPE es social por su naturaleza; sus contenidos proceden de las experiencias aportadas por la gesta independentista cubana, en el campo, tanto por los mambises como por los rebeldes, y los campesinos, enriquecidas en el batallar incesante del pueblo por resistir creativamente las privaciones económicas actuales; lo que debe ser transmitido a los pioneros y guías durante el proceso de categorización o capacitación en contacto directo con la naturaleza, en función de que sepan aprovechar las condiciones del entorno para la exploración a lugares desconocidos, la supervivencia, la astucia, el camuflaje, la cocina sin utensilios, la marcha de noche y de día como lo hicieron nuestros combatientes en las contiendas libertarias, lo que permite el cumplimiento de su ley principal “Ama la naturaleza, a la patria socialista y se prepara para la vida en campaña” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B12">Suárez, Acosta, Almaguer, 2020</xref>, p. 74).</p>
			<p>El primer aporte que realiza la historia cubana al MPE, se constata en la comunidad primitiva, donde se observan actividades, formas de vida y objetos confeccionados por sus antiguos habitantes, que constituyen esencias en la actuación de los exploradores en la actualidad, entre ellos, la construcción de instrumentos rústicos para la caza y la alimentación (lanza, hachas de piedras, vasijas de barro, canoas para la pesca, etc.); el enmascaramiento, los desplazamientos ocultos y silenciosos; la construcción de fuegos para cocinar alimentos o protegerse del frío; la confección de artes de pesca; la emisión de sonidos para comunicarse; los juegos, las danzas y ritos; la convivencia en caneyes, bohíos o cuevas; la solidaridad ante las adversidades del medio natural; la utilización de materiales variados de la naturaleza para confeccionar pictografías y dibujos como vía de comunicación con los demás integrantes de la tribu (el maquillaje, adornar su cuerpo con aretes, collares, pulsos, hojas de árboles); la construcción de hamacas utilizando lianas o bejucos; entre otros ejemplos.</p>
			<p>En la lucha de los cubanos contra el colonialismo español, en su capacidad creativa para enfrentar las dificultades económicas, el sufrimiento y las calamidades a que fueron sometidos, se encuentran importantes aportes al MPE que se materializan desde la construcción de campamentos de campaña que -a juicio de los investigadores- constituyen antesala de las áreas de acampar que crean los pioneros exploradores en la actualidad, con los mismos principios técnicos, organizativos y funcionales, en correspondencia con las características físico-geográficas de cada lugar.</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>Los exploradores seleccionaban el lugar donde iba a ser levantado el campamento, a conveniencia de los planes de la jefatura. El lugar ideal para acampar estaba cerca de una fuente de agua, en un área intrincada y fácil de defender en caso de ataque. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Padrón, 1985</xref>, p. 56)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>En el Diario de Campaña de José Martí, ediciones anotadas por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Beatriz (2019</xref>), se evidencia el significativo aporte que este hace al MPE, al mostrar algunas experiencias aprendidas en el fragor de la lucha por la independencia junto a los mambises en las montañas orientales, que constituyen normas de actuación cotidiana de los exploradores, entre las que se destacan el arreglo del lugar para dormir utilizando los recursos naturales; la solidaridad y unidad para actuar en situaciones difíciles; la realización de construcciones rústicas para protegerse de las lluvias, el sereno o el frío; el seguimiento a rastros o huellas para orientarse, encontrar al enemigo o desorientarlos; la selección de lugares para acampar, entre otros, que se señalan a continuación:</p>
			<p>“Día Mambí. Descanso en el campamento. Lo primero fue coger yaguas, tenderlas por el suelo. Gómez con el machete, corta y trae hojas, para él y para mí. Guerra hace su rancho; cuatro horquetas: ramas en colgadizo: yaguas encima” (p. 68). “…trabajar, a una altura vecina, donde levantan el nuevo campamento: ranchos de troncos, atados con bejuco, techados con palma”. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Martí, 1991</xref>, p. 232)</p>
			<p>Las experiencias explicitadas sobre las áreas de acampadas, su preparación y normas de selección, constituyen modelo de actuación para los pioneros exploradores cubanos, a los que adicionan otras aportaciones de las experiencias socioculturales y de los campesinos, tales como ubicarse en lugares ligeramente altos que eviten la inundaciones en caso de lluvias, cercanas a fuentes para el abasto de agua potable, que existan árboles para colgar las hamacas y con espacios para ubicar las tiendas de campañas, cercana a un centro asistencial o viviendas, crear condiciones para echar los desperdicios sólidos, entre otros aspectos.</p>
			<p>Los pioneros exploradores, en el proceso de categorización como mambí, rebelde o de la victoria, aprenden técnicas de exploración y campismo muy útiles para la vida cotidiana y en campaña, aportadas por los combatientes revolucionarios, entre ellas, las construcciones rústicas, la confección de chozas varaentierras o chabolas, sillas, mesas, fogón, banco, mesa, cama rústica, entre otras. Martí lo refleja así en su diario de campaña:</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>Llegamos al monte. Estanislao Cruzart, buen montuno, (…) taja dos árboles por cerca del pie, clava al frente de cada uno dos horquetas, y otras de apoyo al tronco, y cruces, y varas a lo largo, y ya está el banco. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Beatriz, 2019</xref>, p. 84)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Otros elementos legados por José Martí a los exploradores en su diario de campaña, se constata en el reconocimiento de plantas maderables, frutales, ornamentales, medicinales y comestibles silvestres en condiciones de campaña, para alimentarse, curarse las heridas, las picadas de insectos y de algunas enfermedades que la vida en campaña les imponía.</p>
			<p>Al respecto, menciona más de 100 especies arbóreas que los pioneros exploradores conocen y utilizan con frecuencia o en la confección de viveros para los “Bosques martianos” que crean en los campamentos, instalaciones pioneriles o instituciones escolares, entre las que se destacan el cedro, la caoba, majagua, güira cimarrona, helechos, café cimarrón, mango, caimito, ateje, guásima, ocuje, jiquí, dagame, fustete, algarrobo, naranja (dulce y agria), yagruma, almácigo, jobo, yamagua, itamorreal, yaya, palma real, copey (cupey), lechero, coco, tibisí, yarey, plátano, malanga, canela, anís, boniato (buniato), pomarrosas, caña, tomate, culantro (cimarrón y de castilla), orégano, algodón, tabaco, ébano, paguá (bagá o pajuá), palma (de hojas espinudas “corojo”), cacao, limón, flor de muerto (copetúa), malva, jatía, guizazo, tuna, helecho, algodón, pino, caracolillo, níspero, caoba, curujey, guanábana, jengibre, ceiba, dagame, caguairán, júcaro, jagua, jigüe, jubabán, quiebrahacha, caimitillo, picapica, zarza, higuereta, cebolla, ajo, papa, higo, entre otras.</p>
			<p>Asimismo, Martí describe cómo fueron utilizadas muchas de ellas en la manigua redentora, para curar las heridas de los combatientes mambises, contener la hemorragia o combatir los resfriados, las erupciones en la piel o los malestares de estómagos, que son practicados por los exploradores, sustentado en las experiencias heredadas de las tradiciones combativas que los prepara para la vida cotidiana y en campaña. A continuación, algunos ejemplos: “Va y viene ligera - Caridad Pérez- (…) de cada vuelta trae algo, más café, culantro de castilla, para que, “cuando tengan dolor de estómago por esos caminos, masquen un gramo y tomen agua encima”: trae limón”, (p. 72). “Vi hoy la yamagua, la hoja fénica que estanca la sangre, y con su mera sombra beneficia al herido: machuque bien las hojas, y mételas en la herida, que la sangre se seca”, (p. 75). “A César le dan agua de hojas de guanábana que es pectoral bueno y cocimiento grato”, (p. 90). “Artigas, al acostarnos pone grasa de puerco sin sal sobre una hoja de tomate; y me cubre la boca del nacido”, (p. 107).</p>
			<p>Un tributo importante al surgimiento, desarrollo y consolidación del MPE lo proporcionó Fidel Castro Ruz, artífice fundamental de su creación en el año 1977, quien desde su infancia, sentía gran atracción por las actividades de exploración y excursionismo, las que influyeron en la conformación de su carácter, su disciplina, su resistencia física, su creatividad en condiciones de la vida en campaña durante la lucha en la Sierra Maestra, su patriotismo y su amor por la naturaleza; transmitida a los exploradores en diversos intercambios físicos y discursos memorables luego del triunfo revolucionario.</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>En el caso mío, -dice-, me gustaba el deporte, las excursiones, las caminatas, escalar montañas, todo aquello ejercía gran atractivo sobre mí. (…) Es que yo mismo tampoco me imaginaba que me estaba autopreparando como guerrillero, pero cuando veía una montaña me parecía casi un desafío. La idea de escalar aquella montaña, de llegar hasta arriba, se apoderaba de mí. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Betto, 1985</xref>, p. 130)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Los conocimientos adquiridos por Fidel en sus continuas experiencias excursionistas lo llevaron a ganarse el respeto y prestigio de sus compañeros de aula, quienes lo designaron general de los exploradores en el Colegio Jesuita después de subir las montañas de Pinar del Río, aspectos que sirven de modelo de actuación para los exploradores en la actualidad.</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>Después de una serie de actividades de exploración, creo que ya al final del año, me nombraron jefe de exploradores de la escuela. A mí me gustaba mucho escalar montañas, cruzar ríos, explorar la naturaleza, recorrer los campos, organizar el campamento donde nos cogiera la noche, comer lo que se podía y pasarme varios días en el bosque. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Castro, 1983</xref>, p. 4)</p>

			</p>
			<p>Especial significado para los pioneros exploradores, constituyó el discurso en el acto central por el día de los niños, celebrado en el Jardín Botánico del Parque “Lenin”, donde les hace un llamado a expresar su vocación revolucionaria, el amor por la naturaleza y ser dignos sucesores de la actual generación, inspirados en la vocación naturalista del pueblo cubano a lo largo de la historia, preparándose para la vida en campaña. (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f1">Figura 1</xref>). En este orden reconoce:</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>Nuestro pueblo vivió en las montañas, en los llanos, absolutamente identificado con la naturaleza; durante 10 años en nuestra primera guerra de independencia, tuvieron que vivir haciendo muchas de las cosas que hacen los pioneros exploradores: durmiendo en hamacas, preparando los alimentos en condiciones muy rudimentarias, soportando la lluvia, soportando el calor, soportando la guerra, soportando enfermedades, soportando privaciones de todo tipo. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Castro, 1983</xref>, p. 8)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>En el propio discurso destaca la aportación de los combatientes de las luchas libertarias a la forja de su carácter, su personalidad, su patriotismo, su espíritu de resistencia, sacrificio y amor por la naturaleza, que supo legar a los pioneros exploradores con la creación de más de 70 centros y campamentos de exploradores en toda Cuba, en función de que estos aprendan a aprovechar lo que la naturaleza brinda para subsistir en condiciones ambientales difíciles, del mismo modo que innovaron los combatientes revolucionarios. Al respecto expresa:</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>… ese contacto con la naturaleza, con las montañas, esas experiencias, me ayudó a pensar en la lucha guerrillera, en utilizar el terreno, tal como lo habían hecho nuestros mambises, en la lucha contra la tiranía. Y aquellas experiencias que tuve como explorador, me ayudaron mucho; creo que tuvieron una influencia notable en la concepción de la táctica de nuestra última lucha. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Castro, 1983</xref>, p. 5)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Durante la inauguración del centro de exploradores “Ramón Paz Borroto”, de la provincia Granma (1981), señala las dificultades que tuvieron que afrontar como guerrilleros por la poca preparación en las actividades de exploración y excursionismo, la falta de recursos y de instructores o guías que los enseñaran. Asimismo, evoca la importancia y necesidad de interacción de los pioneros exploradores con la naturaleza, para aprender de ella y utilizarla para su disfrute y el aprendizaje sistemático, tal y como lo hicieron los combatientes revolucionarios.</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>De modo que esa posibilidad de dormir en el bosque, de cocinar en el bosque, de adaptarnos al bosque, fue una cosa decisiva sin la cual nosotros no habríamos podido hacer la guerra. (…) Si nos viéramos en la necesidad de combatir de nuevo defendiendo la patria, si nos viéramos en la necesidad de utilizar nuevamente las montañas y los bosques, entonces cuanto no valdrá haber aprendido primero a vivir en los bosques, en las montañas, en los campos, y a orientarnos, a encontrar cualquier punto y conocer un mapa. Hay pocos placeres mayores que el que la naturaleza puede brindar al hombre. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Castro, 1981,</xref> p. 19, 20)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Existen otros elementos probatorios del vínculo indisoluble de las tradiciones combativas y de lucha del pueblo cubano con el MPE. Entre ellas, la confección y uso de objetos rústicos aprovechando el medio natural (catauros, cacerolas de güiras, jarros, cucharas, chancletas o cutaras de yaguas, bancos, sillas y objetos para almacenar el agua y otros productos en campaña) que los exploradores reconocen como elaboración de objetos rústicos para la supervivencia durante la vida en campaña. (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f2">Figura 2</xref>).</p>

			</p>
			<p>Además de lo anterior, la confección de croquis, de arco y flechas rústicos, de trampas para la caza; el uso correcto del machete y el cuchillo; el enmascaramiento con recursos del medio; filtrar el agua; utilizar el fuego para protegerse del frío, la lluvia y los insectos; conocer y preparar plantas comestibles silvestres y medicinales; orientarse por medios naturales y artificiales; estimar distancias y alturas de objetos en la naturaleza; utilizar señales para adentrarse en el bosque; emplear los nudos y amarres en las construcciones rústicas; realizar los primeros auxilios y la atención a heridas o picaduras de insectos, identificar huellas de animales; confeccionar objetos rústicos para la vida en campaña, entre otros aspectos, que se recogen en los requisitos de las categorías y los niveles de capacitación para los pioneros exploradores, los guías e instructores.</p>
			<p>En el diario de campaña de Ernesto Che Guevara y Raúl Castro Ruz, “La conquista de la esperanza”, se muestran otros elementos coincidentes con la actividad de construcciones en campaña que realizan cotidianamente los exploradores, aprovechando los recursos naturales del entorno. Raúl refiere que, con Fidel y el Che hicieron una chabola que llovía más adentro que afuera y que su escuadra fabricó la mejor chabola con pencas de palma, algunas yaguas y como colchón para dormir pajas de arroz, (Che <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Guevara y Castro, 1996</xref>).</p>
			<p>De igual manera, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Acebedo (2020</xref>) en el libro “Descamisados”, revela otra importante contribución al MPE vinculado a la creatividad y aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales para sobrevivir en contacto directo con la naturaleza, aspectos coincidentes con las actividades actuales que realizan los pioneros exploradores. En este orden destaca que, Alfonso se da cuenta de que no tienen equipos de campaña, busca dos sacos de azúcar, teje sogas de majagua y se las entrega, lo demás deben hacerlo ellos por su cuenta. Él se cuela de cabeza en el saco y duerme, a media noche siente un ruido, es Rogelio que rueda loma abajo, le faltó pericia al cocer el dobladillo por lo que tiene que jugar suelo a su lado.</p>
			<p>El recrudecimiento del cerco imperialista contra Cuba, que priva a los pioneros exploradores de financiamientos y recursos materiales dirigidos a la compra de medios de campaña para desarrollar sus actividades como exploradores, encuentra respaldo en el ingenio y la creatividad de pioneros, guías e instructores, que son fruto de la inventiva y el protagonismo de los combatientes revolucionarios en la gestas independentistas, entre ellas: la fabricación de hamacas y tiendas de campañas de saco, nylon, pencas de guano, etc.; la confección de jolongo mambí (de saco, bejucos o yaguas de palmas) en sustitución de mochilas; la construcción de cantimploras de caña de bamboo, güiras o cocos secos, la confección de cucharas, platos y vasos utilizando la yagua o la madera, así como el tejido de sombreros con fibras naturales, entre otros elementos identitarios del acervo sociocultural.</p>
			<p>En la etapa final de la guerra revolucionaria en la Sierra Maestra se acumulan vibrantes acciones guerrilleras que confirman la unidad del pueblo, el apoyo del campesinado y de todos los sectores de la sociedad que contribuyeron al triunfo, que sirven de sustento práctico a las actividades de orientación por medios naturales y artificiales que realizan los exploradores. Así lo destaca Che <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Guevara (2005</xref>) en su libro “Pasajes de la Guerra Revolucionaria”. “Por la noche salimos a caminar. Establecí cuál era la estrella polar, según mis conocimientos en la materia, y durante un par de días fuimos caminando guiándonos por ella hacia el este y llegar a la Sierra Maestra” (p. 15-16). Reconoce, además, que, al encontrarse perdido, tomó la brújula y guiándose por ella siguió un día y medio hasta darse cuenta que, cada vez, estaba más perdido.</p>
			<p>Todo lo antes explicitado demuestra la creatividad e innovación del pueblo cubano y de los combatientes revolucionarios por subsistir ante las carencias provocadas por la guerra, el cerco imperialista y las escaseces de la vida cotidiana, que constituyen vivencias prácticas transmitidas a los pioneros exploradores en la actualidad; lo que se traduce en una concepción patriótica, auténtica e inigualable, dirigida a utilizar racionalmente los recursos de la naturaleza para alimentarse, cuidar su salud, protegerse del frío, saciar la sed, abrirse camino en la manigua, aprender a orientarse por diversas vías y medios, desarrollar el patriotismo, la solidaridad, el compañerismo ante las dificultades, entre otros elementos, a la postre, riquezas que hacen suyas los exploradores en su actuar cotidiano, fruto de la herencia sociocultural y el aporte de las luchas libertarias de los cubanos por subsistir como nación libre e independiente.</p>
		</sec>
		<sec sec-type="conclusions">
			<title>Conclusiones</title>
			<p>Existe un sistema de juicios y argumentos probatorios de que el Movimiento de Pioneros Exploradores es heredero de lo mejor de las luchas desarrolladas por el pueblo de Cuba en la manigua redentora, que proviene desde los aborígenes, transita por la acción revolucionaria de los mambises y el Ejército Rebelde, incluido el Diario de José Martí en campaña, de Che Guevara y Raúl Castro, las experiencias de Fidel Castro desde su formación hasta su actuar en la Sierra Maestra y el batallar incesante de los cubanos por subsistir frente al acoso imperialista y las dificultades económicas existentes.</p>
			<p>Los principales elementos más significativos que demuestran el aporte de las tradiciones combativas y de lucha del pueblo cubano al MPE son la identificación y preparación de acampadas y excursiones, la confección de objetos y construcciones rústicas, la orientación por medios naturales y artificiales, prestación de los primeros auxilios, la utilización de plantas medicinales y comestibles silvestres en condiciones de campaña, en las actividades de excursionismo y exploración en la naturaleza, así como en la solidaridad que se manifiesta ante las dificultades y limitaciones.</p>

				<title>ABSTRACT</title>
				<p>The origin and evolution of the Pioneer Scout Movement finds diverse criteria among scholars and practitioners; some associate it to the Boy Scouts or the explorers; others, to the contribution of the combative traditions and the struggle of the Cuban people for their national independence. To demonstrate this last affirmation is the objective of the present work, for which the analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive methods and analysis of documents of the history of Cuba, campaign diaries, books and diverse materials of the socio-cultural heritage were used that, in their fertile and substantial examination, confirmed the evidential elements that originated this investigation.</p>

				<title>Introduction</title>
				<p>Regarding the origin and evolution of the Pioneer Explorers Movement, hereinafter (MPE), there are different positions among guides, instructors, researchers and scholars of the subject. On the one hand, there are those who claim that it has its origin in Boy Scouts<xref ref-type="fn" rid="fn3">3</xref> and, on the other hand, those who explain its birth and development from the experience accumulated by the Cuban people in their struggles for national and social liberation.</p>
				<p>In the study of the scientific production on the MPE, we analyzed the works of outstanding researchers, significant for this inquiry, which are detailed below, as well as the methodological documents of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (2005-2024), where they conceive it from the sociological, patriotic, or as a valuable instrument for environmental education and the integral formation of students from the activities that are developed in it, aimed at the consolidation of values, standards of conduct and modes of action; but they do not recognize, in general, the contribution of the Cuban independence struggle to its origin, development and historical evolution.</p>
				<p>In the practice of the MPE, there are limitations among the guides, instructors and researchers of the subject, associated to the lack of knowledge about its background and historical evolution; the linking of the contents with the experiences of the Cuban independence deeds and the struggle of the people to survive in the face of the limitations imposed by the imperial encirclement, as well as the existence of divergent criteria about its patriotic and sociocultural origin. In correspondence, it is proposed as a problem to be solved, how to demonstrate that the Pioneer Scout Movement is based on the contributions inherited from the struggles of the Cuban people for their national and social liberation and not exclusively from the Boy Scouts?</p>
				<p>It is the purpose of the authors of this research to demonstrate <xref ref-type="fn" rid="fn4">4</xref> that the roots of the MPE are found in the experiences accumulated by the Cuban people in their struggle for national independence, sovereignty and social justice. For this purpose, the analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and documentary analysis methods were used, which provided the evidential elements for the solution of the stated scientific problem.</p>
			</sec>
			<sec sec-type="results">
				<title>Development</title>
				<p>The conviction that there is a close relationship between the national and social liberating struggle of the Cuban people, and the origin, development and consolidation of the MPE at present, emanates from the knowledge of the history of Cuba and the study of the work of José Martí and Fidel Castro, exposed in campaign diaries, historical documents, speeches, images and testimonies expressed in various reliable documentary sources.</p>
				<p>The content of the MPE has been analyzed from its scope, real dimension in Cuban society, and its contribution to the patriotic, environmental, solidarity, revolutionary and integral formation of students, by the researchers, Trelles (1985); Labarrere and Valdivia (1988); Turner (1994); Bonet (2001); Domínguez (2003); Acosta, Pérez, Toledo &amp; Águila (2019). For their part, Mosquera (2005), Martínez (2011); Fernández and Guzmán (2016), also consider it as the ideal means to channel the concerns of the pioneers, related to exploration and camping, knowledge of nature, walking, observation, physical preparation and survival, oriented to the preparation of its members for life in the field.</p>
				<p>Likewise, it is recognized as a specialized social organization of massive participation that prepares its members for life in campaign from the multiple activities they carry out, channeled to enrich the patriotic feelings linked to the combative and fighting traditions of the Cuban people, (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Ávalos &amp; Martínez, 2014</xref>). It is also valued as the Movement that brings together pioneers from first to ninth grades to carry out activities in direct contact with nature, focused on the preparation for life in coastal areas and the sea, to contribute to the formation of ethical, moral, patriotic and anti-imperialist values (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Acosta, 2022</xref>).</p>
				<p>The above criteria corroborate the consensus among researchers, in recognizing that the MPE favors the knowledge of the combative and fighting traditions of the Cuban people, an aspect that has been little investigated, and that it is a source of values, the basis of patriotic work, environmental education, as well as the preparation of pioneers for life in the campaign. The theoretical study carried out by the authors and their results as researchers, together with the experience of the main author during 33 years in the MPE, member of its Advisory Council and its historian at the National level, have allowed the elaboration of a more integrating definition adjusted to the current transformations.</p>
				<p>In this regard, the MPE is considered as the movement of the José Martí Pioneers Organization that groups, on a voluntary and massive basis, Cuban children and adolescents from first to ninth grade, who, authorized by their parents and led by guides and instructors, prepare themselves for life in campaign conditions, through the realization of multiple land and marine activities in direct contact with the socio-natural environment, aimed at consolidating their patriotic, environmental, revolutionary, solidarity and integral formation, to meet the expectations of learning about camping, hiking, exploration and survival, linked to the combative and fighting traditions of the Cuban people.</p>
				<p>The MPE is social by its nature; its contents come from the experiences contributed by the Cuban independence struggle, in the countryside, both by the mambises and the rebels, and the peasants, enriched in the incessant battle of the people to creatively resist the current economic hardships; This should be transmitted to the pioneers and guides during the process of categorization or training in direct contact with nature, so that they know how to take advantage of the conditions of the environment for the exploration of unknown places, survival, cunning, camouflage, cooking without utensils, marching by night and day as our combatants did in the libertarian battles, which allows the fulfillment of its main law “Love nature, the socialist homeland and prepare for life in campaign” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B12">Suárez, Acosta, Almaguer, 2020</xref>, p. 74).</p>
				<p>The first contribution made by Cuban history to the MPE, is found in the primitive community, where activities, ways of life and objects made by its ancient inhabitants are observed, which constitute essences in the actions of explorers today, among them, the construction of rustic instruments for hunting and food (spear, stone axes, clay pots, fishing canoes, etc.); masking, masking and masking, the use of the objects, and the use of the objects in the community as a way of life.); the masking, the hidden and silent displacements; the construction of fires to cook food or protect themselves from the cold; the making of fishing gear; the emission of sounds to communicate; the games, dances and rites; the coexistence in caneyes, bohíos or caves; the solidarity in the face of the adversities of the natural environment; the use of various materials from nature to make pictographs and drawings as a means of communication with other members of the tribe (makeup, decorating their bodies with earrings, necklaces, bracelets, tree leaves); the construction of hammocks using lianas or vines; among other examples.</p>
				<p>In the struggle of the Cubans against Spanish colonialism, in their creative capacity to face the economic difficulties, suffering and calamities to which they were subjected, there are important contributions to the MPE that materialize from the construction of field camps that -in the opinion of the researchers- constitute a forerunner of the camping areas created by the pioneer explorers today, with the same technical, organizational and functional principles, in correspondence with the physical-geographical characteristics of each place.</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>The explorers selected the place where the camp was to be erected, according to the plans of the chiefdom. The ideal place to camp was near a water source, in an intricate area and easy to defend in case of attack. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Padrón, 1985</xref>, p. 56)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>In José Martí's Diario de Campaña, editions annotated by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Beatriz (2019</xref>), there is evidence of the significant contribution he makes to the MPE, by showing some experiences learned in the heat of the struggle for independence together with the mambises in the eastern mountains, which constitute rules of daily action of the explorers, among which stand out the arrangement of the place to sleep using natural resources; the solidarity and unity to act in difficult situations; the realization of rustic constructions to protect themselves from the rains, the serene or the cold; the following of traces or tracks to orient themselves, to find the enemy or to disorient them; the selection of places to camp, among others, which are indicated below:</p>
				<p>“Mambí Day. Rest in the camp. The first thing was to pick up yaguas, spread them on the ground. Gómez with the machete cuts and brings leaves, for him and for me. Guerra makes his rancho; four pitchforks: hanging branches: yaguas on top” (p. 68). “...to work, at a neighboring height, where they erect the new camp: log huts, tied with liana, roofed with palm” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Martí, 1991</xref>, p. 232).</p>
				<p>The experiences explained about the camping areas, their preparation and selection norms, constitute a model of action for the Cuban pioneer explorers, to which they add other contributions from the socio-cultural experiences and from the peasants, such as locating in slightly high places to avoid flooding in case of rain, close to sources of drinking water, with trees to hang the hammocks and with spaces to locate the tents, close to an assistance center or houses, creating conditions to throw solid waste, among other aspects.</p>
				<p>The pioneer explorers, in the process of categorization as mambí, rebel or of the victory, learn techniques of exploration and camping very useful for the daily life and in campaign, contributed by the revolutionary combatants, among them, the rustic constructions, the confection of huts varaentierras or shacks, chairs, tables, stove, bench, table, rustic bed, among others. Martí reflects this in his campaign diary:</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>We arrived at the mountain. Estanislao Cruzart, a good mountain man, (...) cuts two trees by the foot, nails two forks to the front of each one, and others to support the trunk, and crosses, and rods along the length, and the bench is ready. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Beatriz, 2019</xref>, p. 84)</p>

				<p>Other elements bequeathed by José Martí to the explorers in his campaign diary, are found in the recognition of timber, fruit, ornamental, medicinal and edible wild plants in campaign conditions, to feed themselves, to heal wounds, insect bites and some diseases that life in campaign imposed on them.</p>
				<p>In this respect, he mentions more than 100 arboreal species that the pioneer explorers know and use frequently or in the making of nurseries for the “Bosques martianos” that they create in the camps, pioneer facilities or school institutions, among which are cedar, mahogany, majagua, güira cimarrona, ferns, cimarrón coffee, mango, caimito, ateje, guásima, ocuje, jiquí, dagame, fustete, carob, orange (sweet and sour), yagruma, almácigo, jobo, yamagua, itamorreal, yaya, royal palm, copey (cupey), lechero, coconut, tibisí, yarey, plantain, malanga, cinnamon, anise, sweet potato (buniato), pomarrosas, cane, tomato, coriander (cimarrón and castilla), oregano, cotton, tobacco, ebony, paguá (bagá or pajuá), palm (of prickly leaves “corojo”), cocoa, lemon, flor de muerto (copetúa), malva, jatía, guizazo, tuna, fern, cotton, pine, caracolillo, medlar, mahogany, curujey, guanábana, ginger, ceiba, dagame, caguairán, júcaro, jagua, jigüe, jubabán, quiebrahacha, caimitillo, picapica, zarza, higuereta, onion, garlic, potato, fig, among others.</p>
				<p>Likewise, Martí describes how many of them were used in the redeeming manigua, to cure the wounds of the Mambi fighters, to contain the hemorrhage or to fight colds, skin eruptions or stomach ailments, which are practiced by the explorers, sustained in the experiences inherited from the combative traditions that prepare them for the daily life and in campaign. Here are some examples: “She comes and goes lightly - Caridad Perez- (...) from every turn she brings something, more coffee, culantro de castilla, so that, “when they have a stomach ache on those roads, chew a gram and drink water on top”: she brings lemon” (p. 72). “I saw today the yamagua, the phenic leaf that stagnates the blood, and with its mere shade benefits the wounded: crush the leaves well, and put them in the wound, that the blood dries” (p. 75). “Cesar is given water of soursop leaves, which is good for the chest and a pleasant decoction”, (p. 90). “Artigas, when we go to bed, puts pork fat without salt on a tomato leaf; and he covers my mouth” (p. 107).</p>
				<p>An important tribute to the emergence, development and consolidation of the MPE was provided by Fidel Castro Ruz, fundamental architect of its creation in 1977, who since his childhood, felt great attraction for exploration and hiking activities, which influenced the formation of his character, his discipline, his physical endurance, his creativity in conditions of campaign life during the struggle in the Sierra Maestra, his patriotism and his love for nature; transmitted to the explorers in various physical exchanges and memorable speeches after the revolutionary triumph.</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>In my case,” he says, “I liked sports, hiking, trekking, climbing mountains, everything was very attractive to me (...) I didn't imagine that I was preparing myself as a guerrilla fighter, but when I saw a mountain it seemed almost a challenge to me. The idea of climbing that mountain, of reaching the top, took hold of me. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Betto, 1985</xref>, p. 130)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>The knowledge acquired by Fidel in his continuous hiking experiences led him to gain the respect and prestige of his classmates, who appointed him general of the scouts at the Jesuit College after climbing the mountains of Pinar del Río, aspects that serve as a role model for scouts today.</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>After a series of scouting activities, I think by the end of the year, I was appointed scoutmaster of the school. I really liked to climb mountains, cross rivers, explore nature, go through the fields, organize the camp where the night would take us, eat what we could and spend several days in the forest. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Castro, 1983</xref>, p. 4)</p>

				<p>Special significance for the pioneer explorers, constituted the speech in the central act for the children's day, celebrated in the Botanical Garden of the “Lenin” Park, where he calls on them to express their revolutionary vocation, love for nature and to be worthy successors of the current generation, inspired by the naturalist vocation of the Cuban people throughout history, preparing for life in campaign. (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f3">Figure 1</xref>). In this order he recognizes:</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>Our people lived in the mountains, in the plains, absolutely identified with nature; for 10 years in our first war of independence, they had to live doing many of the things that pioneer explorers do: sleeping in hammocks, preparing food in very rudimentary conditions, enduring the rain, enduring the heat, enduring the war, enduring illness, enduring privations of all kinds. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Castro, 1983</xref>, p. 8)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>In his own speech he emphasizes the contribution of the combatants of the libertarian struggles to the forging of his character, his personality, his patriotism, his spirit of resistance, sacrifice and love for nature, which he knew how to bequeath to the pioneer explorers with the creation of more than 70 centers and camps of explorers throughout Cuba, in function that these learn to take advantage of what nature provides to subsist in difficult environmental conditions, in the same way that the revolutionary combatants innovated. In this regard, he expresses:</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>... that contact with nature, with the mountains, those experiences, helped me to think about the guerrilla struggle, to use the terrain, just as our mambises had done, in the struggle against tyranny. And those experiences I had as an explorer helped me a lot; I think they had a notable influence on the conception of the tactics of our last struggle. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Castro, 1983</xref>, p. 5)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>During the inauguration of the “Ramón Paz Borroto” explorers' center in Granma province (1981), he points out the difficulties they had to face as guerrilla fighters due to the lack of preparation in exploration and hiking activities, the lack of resources and of instructors or guides to teach them. Likewise, he evokes the importance and need for interaction of the pioneer explorers with nature, to learn from it and use it for their enjoyment and systematic learning, just as the revolutionary combatants did.</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>So that possibility of sleeping in the forest, of cooking in the forest, of adapting ourselves to the forest, was a decisive thing without which we would not have been able to make war (...) If we should find ourselves in the need to fight again defending the homeland, if we should find ourselves in the need to use again the mountains and the forests, then how much will it not be worth to have first learned to live in the forests, in the mountains, in the fields, and to orient ourselves, to find any point and to know a map. There are few greater pleasures than what nature can offer man. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Castro, 1981,</xref> p. 19, 20)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>There are other elements that prove the indissoluble link of the combative and fighting traditions of the Cuban people with the MPE. Among them, the making and use of rustic objects taking advantage of the natural environment (catauros, güiras pans, jars, spoons, flip-flops or cutaras de yaguas, benches, chairs and objects to store water and other products in the campaign) that the explorers recognize as the elaboration of rustic objects for survival during life in the campaign. (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f4">Figure 2</xref>).</p>

					</fig>
				</p>
				<p>In addition to the above, the making of sketches, of rustic bow and arrows, of traps for hunting; the correct use of the machete and knife; masking with resources of the environment; filtering water; using fire to protect oneself from the cold, rain and insects; knowing and preparing wild edible and medicinal plants; orienting oneself by natural and artificial means; estimating distances and heights of objects in nature; use signs to enter the forest; use knots and moorings in rustic constructions; perform first aid and care for wounds or insect bites, identify animal tracks; make rustic objects for life in the field, among other aspects, which are included in the requirements of the categories and levels of training for pioneer explorers, guides and instructors.</p>
				<p>In the campaign diary of Ernesto Che Guevara and Raúl Castro Ruz, “The Conquest of Hope”, other elements are shown that coincide with the activity of construction in the campaign that the explorers carry out daily, taking advantage of the natural resources of the environment. Raul refers that, with Fidel and Ché, they made a hut that rained more inside than outside and that his squad made the best hut with palm stalks some yaguas and rice straws as a mattress to sleep on (Che <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Guevara and Castro, 1996</xref>).</p>
				<p>Similarly, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Acebedo (2020</xref>) in the book “Descamisados” reveals another important contribution to the MPE linked to the creativity and use of natural resources to survive in direct contact with nature, aspects that coincide with the current activities carried out by the pioneer explorers. In this order, Alfonso realizes that they have no camping equipment, looks for two sacks of sugar, weaves majagua rope and gives it to them, the rest they have to do on their own. He slips headfirst into the sack and sleeps, at midnight he hears a noise, it is Rogelio rolling down the hill, and he lacked skill in weaving the hem so he has to play on the ground next to him.</p>
				<p>The intensification of the imperialist siege against Cuba, which deprives the pioneer explorers of financing and material resources directed to the purchase of campaign means to develop their activities as explorers, finds support in the ingenuity and creativity of pioneers, guides and instructors, which are the fruit of the inventiveness and the protagonism of the revolutionary combatants in the independence campaigns, among them: the manufacture of hammocks and tents of sack, nylon, guano stalks, etc. The making of jolongo mambí (of sackcloth, bejucos or yaguas of palms) in substitution of backpacks; the construction of canteens of bamboo cane, güiras or dry coconuts, the making of spoons, plates and glasses using yagua or wood, as well as the weaving of hats with natural fibers, among other identity elements of the sociocultural heritage.</p>
				<p>In the final stage of the revolutionary war in the Sierra Maestra, vibrant guerrilla actions are accumulated that confirm the unity of the people, the support of the peasantry and all sectors of society that contributed to the triumph, which serve as practical support to the activities of orientation by natural and artificial means carried out by the explorers. Thus Che <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Guevara (2005</xref>) highlights in his book “Pasajes de la Guerra Revolucionaria” (Passages of the Revolutionary War). “At night we went for a walk. I established which was the polar star, according to my knowledge on the matter, and for a couple of days we walked guided by it towards the east and reached the Sierra Maestra” (p. 15-16). He also admits that, finding himself lost, he took the compass and guided himself by it for a day and a half until he realized that he was getting more and more lost.</p>
				<p>All of the above demonstrates the creativity and innovation of the Cuban people and the revolutionary combatants to subsist in the face of the shortages caused by the war, the imperialist siege and the scarcities of everyday life, which constitute practical experiences transmitted to the pioneer explorers today; This translates into a patriotic conception, authentic and unequaled, aimed at rationally using the resources of nature to feed themselves, take care of their health, protect themselves from the cold, quench their thirst, make their way through the mangrove, learn to find their way through various ways and means, develop patriotism, solidarity, companionship in the face of difficulties, among other elements, ultimately, riches that the explorers make their own in their daily activities, the result of the socio-cultural heritage and the contribution of the libertarian struggles of Cubans to survive as a free and independent nation.</p>

				<title>Conclusions</title>
				<p>There is a system of judgments and arguments proving that the Pioneer Explorers Movement is heir to the best of the struggles developed by the people of Cuba in the redemptive mangrove, which comes from the aborigines, transits through the revolutionary action of the Mambises and the Rebel Army, including the Diary of José Martí in campaign, of Che Guevara and Raúl Castro, the experiences of Fidel Castro from his formation to his action in the Sierra Maestra and the incessant battle of the Cubans to survive in the face of the imperialist harassment and the existing economic difficulties.</p>
				<p>The main and most significant elements that demonstrate the contribution of the combative and fighting traditions of the Cuban people to the MPE are the identification and preparation of camping and excursions, the making of objects and rustic constructions, the orientation by natural and artificial means, the provision of first aid, the use of medicinal and edible wild plants in campaign conditions, in the activities of excursionism and exploration in nature, as well as in the solidarity that is manifested in the face of difficulties and limitations. <fn fn-type="other" id="fn8">

						<p> Boy Scouts. Es un movimiento infantil y juvenil creado a principios del siglo XX por el inglés Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell, buscando el desarrollo físico, espiritual y mental de los jóvenes combinando la vida militar y al aire libre, sobre la base de los valores y los juegos en la naturaleza, como método de enseñanza no formal. Se utiliza, según el país, la acepción «scout» o «explorador», de las cuales deriva «Escultismo» —scouting, en inglés—.El Movimiento Scout en Cuba comenzó a practicarse en 1914. <p>Boy Scouts. It is a children's and youth movement created in the early twentieth century by the Englishman Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell, seeking the physical, spiritual and mental development of young people by combining military and outdoor life, based on values and games in nature, as a method of non-formal education. Depending on the country, the meaning “scout” or “explorer” is used, from which “scouting” derives. Scouting in Cuba began to be practiced in 1914. In 1927 the Scaut Cuba Association was founded and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement the same year. It was suspended from WOSM membership in 1961, because, supposedly, it no longer responded to the interests of that organization.</p>
