				<title>RESUMEN</title>
				<p>Uno de los problemas que limitan una formación más integral de los futuros docentes de la facultad de Pedagogía son las insuficiencias en la gestión curricular de dicho proceso formativo. Para ello, este artículo tiene como objetivo identificar algunos retos que deben enfrentar docentes y directivos para coadyuvar a dicha integralidad. Se utilizaron métodos como el análisis-síntesis, el análisis de contenido y la revisión de documentos. Los resultados apuntan a un consenso en un conjunto de desafíos para el proceso de gestión curricular que, atendidos oportunamente, pueden hacer más pertinente el cumplimiento de la misión de la Universidad con su sociedad.</p>

			<title>Introducción</title>
			<p>En el “Informe de la Comisión Internacional sobre los Futuros de la Educación” se señala que “Los docentes son el factor más significativo de la calidad educativa, siempre que dispongan de reconocimiento, preparación, apoyo, recursos, autonomía y oportunidades suficientes para el desarrollo continuo.” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura, UNESCO, 2022</xref>, p. 22). De ahí la necesidad de que las universidades, y dentro de ellas las facultades de Pedagogía, apuesten por una formación que propenda cada vez más a la integralidad de los futuros docentes.</p>
			<p>La educación superior ecuatoriana, que apuesta por los cambios necesarios para lograr esta meta, tiene en este contexto la responsabilidad de “…contribuir al desarrollo y la mejora de la educación en todos los niveles, en particular mediante la capacitación del personal docente.”, como se recoge en la Declaración Mundial sobre la Educación Superior (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Conferencia Mundial de Educación Superior (CMES), 1998</xref>, p. 101).</p>
			<p>Dentro de los propósitos y contenidos a incluir en dicha capacitación, el dominio de los presupuestos teórico-metodológicos para enfrentar la gestión curricular, constituye una prioridad si se aspira a lograr una formación integral de los futuros educadores. Dicha gestión resulta un proceso complejo, toda vez que entraña el desarrollo de un conjunto de acciones que posibiliten hacer más pertinente el proceso de formación, por lo que se identificó un problema relacionado con insuficiencias en la gestión curricular en la facultad de Pedagogía de la Universidad “Luis Vargas Torres” de Esmeraldas, Ecuador, que limitan la formación integral de los futuros docentes.</p>
			<p>Esta problemática puede tener respuesta a partir de identificar algunos de los retos que se deben enfrentar en el proceso de gestión curricular de dicha Facultad de Pedagogía, como condición fundamental para contribuir a la formación integral de sus estudiantes, que constituye el objetivo de este artículo.</p>
			<p>En consonancia con el objetivo del trabajo, se seleccionaron materiales que abordan antecedentes del objeto de investigación relativo a la gestión curricular en las carreras universitarias, así como otros relacionados con la formación integral de estudiantes de carreras pedagógicas, que aparecen en textos publicados en revistas científicas indexadas en SciELO y otras bases de datos relevantes, como premisa para la utilización de la revisión documental y los métodos teóricos de análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción y análisis de contenido. Ellos, en conjunto, posibilitaron delimitar los rasgos que definen los conceptos fundamentales del trabajo, su importancia, y algunos retos para una adecuada gestión curricular, con la participación de docentes y directivos, en aras de contribuir a la pertinencia de la formación de los futuros docentes de las carreras pedagógicas de esta prestigiosa Universidad.</p>
		</sec>
		<sec sec-type="results">
			<title>Desarrollo</title>
			<p>Un análisis conceptual de la formación integral en la gestión curricular de los futuros docentes de la facultad de Pedagogía demanda de la sistematización de categorías más generales, desde la lógica formal, asociadas al objeto de investigación de este trabajo, como son: formación, formación integral del educador, gestión y, gestión curricular. Las consideraciones que se derivaron de este estudio posibilitaron la adopción de referentes teórico-metodológicas y el planteamiento de algunos retos para una adecuada gestión curricular, como pautas que la direccionen hacia la formación de los futuros docentes de la facultad de Pedagogía.</p>
			<p>En el caso de la definición del concepto formación que se asume, es la que lo establece:</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>como proceso y como resultado, que se distingue por su carácter sistemático (continuo), que está orientada a la adquisición, estructuración y reestructuración de conductas a partir de los conocimientos, habilidades, actitudes y valores, bajo la guía de objetivos previamente fijados y que involucra todas las dimensiones del desarrollo humano. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Del Toro, 2016</xref>, pp. 12 y 13)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Con relación a la formación integral en la Tercera Conferencia Mundial de Educación Superior (Barcelona, 2022) se destaca que “Las instituciones de educación superior deben hacer hincapié en los valores y comportamientos éticos (…). Los valores positivos deben impregnar todos los programas académicos e instalarse en el ADN de la cultura institucional de todas las IES.” (UNESCO, 3ª Conferencia Mundial de Educación Superior, 2022, p. 25). Asimismo, se resalta la necesidad de evolucionar “De un enfoque restrictivo en la formación disciplinaria o profesional a una experiencia de aprendizaje integral del estudiante” (p. 28), entre los cambios que deben producirse en la educación superior contemporánea.</p>
			<p>En consonancia, se asume la formación integral como una “…cualidad en las concepciones actuales de la universidad como institución social” que:</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>expresa la pretensión de centrar el quehacer de las universidades en la formación de valores en los profesionales de forma más plena, dotándolos de cualidades de alto significado humano, capaces de comprender la necesidad de poner sus conocimientos al servicio de la sociedad en lugar de utilizarlos sólo para su beneficio personal. Implica también la necesidad de lograr un profesional creativo, independiente, preparado para asumir su autoeducación durante toda la vida. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Horruitiner, 2008</xref>, pp. 3 y 4)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p> En el caso del concepto de gestión, se asume por las autoras de este artículo como un proceso social de influencias, de carácter estratégico, para conducir procesos y personas en función del alcance de objetivos concertados por todos los participantes. Para lograrlo, es necesario cumplir funciones como la planificación, la organización, la toma de decisiones, el control y, la evaluación.</p>
			<p>Asimismo, la gestión curricular, que es un concepto limitado del concepto de gestión, desde la lógica formal, ha sido definido por investigadores como <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Bedoya et al. (2021</xref>); <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Crespo-Cabuto, et al. (2021</xref>); <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Villegas &amp; Valderrama (2021</xref>); entre otros.</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Bedoya et al. (2021</xref>), que homologa este término con el de gestión pedagógica, concluye en sus estudios con la aseveración de la imposibilidad de hablar de calidad educativa sin abordar los necesarios cambios curriculares que propendan a una mayor integralidad en la formación de los profesionales.</p>
			<p>Por su parte, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Villegas &amp; Valderrama (2021</xref>) enfatiza la gestión en la actividad docente curricular, que asume como una</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>…concepción que integra un conjunto de compromisos y actuaciones que se realizan tanto dentro del aula como fuera de ella. Está destinada a favorecer el aprendizaje de los estudiantes en cuanto al logro de los resultados de aprendizaje y las competencias definidas en el perfil de egreso, en un contexto institucional determinado. De esta manera, es posible indicar que la actividad docente-curricular implica, entre otros aspectos: 1) la coordinación, gestión y planificación de la docencia; 2) el despliegue de métodos de enseñanza; 3) las actividades de aprendizaje y evaluación; 4) la posterior revisión y mejora de las actuaciones realizadas; 5) la calidad de lo que se le ofrece al estudiantado, y 6) la implicación de la orientación curricular, que asume su valor por lo que aporta en la buena docencia universitaria. (pp. 160 y 161)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>En opinión de las autoras de este trabajo, la gestión curricular en el caso específico de la facultad de Pedagogía de la Universidad “Luis Vargas Torres” de Esmeraldas, Ecuador, debe incidir de manera general en los planes de estudio, en el proyecto estratégico de la facultad, en los métodos y técnicas que se definan para el logro de los objetivos, en el modelo del profesional, en el plan del proceso docente, en los programas de las disciplinas y asignaturas y en las políticas institucionales.</p>
			<p>De igual modo, debe ser objeto de atención, la adecuada gestión de los componentes de la cultura organizacional, tales como: las tradiciones, costumbres, valores, creencias, las relaciones entre los diferentes actores que inciden en el proceso formativo y hacen vida en la Facultad, las normas y reglamentos. Asimismo, no puede desentenderse de la formación permanente del profesorado, como condición indispensable para lograr esa formación integral a la que se aspira.</p>
			<p>Hay que considerar, igualmente, la existencia de dos tipos de currículos, el implícito u oculto y el explícito. El currículo explícito contiene lo que intencionalmente se declara de manera planificada para el alcance de los objetivos; el currículo oculto abarca todo lo que influye en el alcance de esos objetivos, de manera espontánea y más o menos decisiva. Por ello se impone, en el proceso de gestión curricular, perfeccionar el sistema de control y evaluación de los diferentes procesos que trascurren en la Facultad de Pedagogía y su impacto en la formación integral de sus futuros docentes.</p>
			<p>Como colofón del estudio realizado, a continuación, se esboza una síntesis de las aportaciones de los investigadores, que reflejan un consenso sobre algunos de los retos que debe considerar una gestión curricular que apueste a la calidad educativa y propenda hacia una formación integral de los futuros docentes de la facultad de Pedagogía en la Universidad “Luis Vargas Torres”, a saber:</p>
			<p>
				<list list-type="bullet">
					<list-item>
						<p>Lograr coherencia en la identificación de los problemas profesionales que se aborden en el currículo, que conlleven al fomento de competencias que les faciliten a los futuros docentes satisfacer las necesidades reales de las instituciones donde se desempeñarán laboralmente. Se estaría cerca así de una verdadera pertinencia social del plan de estudios (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Crespo-Cabuto, et al., 2021</xref>). Como afirman <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Bedoya et al. (2021</xref>), las universidades “…deben diseñar y ejecutar currículos de estudio que estén acorde a su realidad.” (p. 212)</p>
					</list-item>
					<list-item>
						<p>Monitorear sistemáticamente, mediante mecanismos de evaluación, los resultados de la gestión curricular, como expresión de la mejora continua y de una dirección proactiva e inconforme con los resultados que se alcancen, además de servir como un referente de los cambios a realizar en el desarrollo de los procesos sustantivos de formación, investigación y vinculación con la sociedad (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Crespo-Cabuto, et al., 2021</xref>).</p>
					</list-item>
					<list-item>
						<p>Considerar también, en el proceso de rediseño curricular de las carreras pedagógicas, entre sus contenidos, la preparación para la gestión en las instituciones educativas (sin la intención prematura de creer, que una vez egresado, el docente podría desempeñarse como un director escolar), sino como una estrategia curricular que coadyuve a favorecer la formación de los futuros educadores para la dirección del proceso educativo y de otros procesos que deberá conducir, asuma o no una responsabilidad directiva. Estos contenidos impulsarían el proceso formativo hacia una formación más integral, para la vida. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Del Toro y Valiente, 2019</xref>)</p>
					</list-item>
					<list-item>
						<p>Impulsar el diseño de tareas integradoras que confluyan en una disciplina principal del currículo, vinculada directamente a la práctica laboral que realizan los futuros docentes en las instituciones donde desarrollarán su actividad pedagógica profesional. Para lograrlo, será fundamental la realización de un trabajo metodológico docente que paute, holísticamente, lo que se espera que el estudiante realice en ese escenario formativo (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Del Toro, 2016</xref>; Del Toro y Valiente, 2019 y <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Horruitiner, 2008</xref>).</p>
					</list-item>
					<list-item>
						<p>La disciplina principal integradora constituye la columna vertebral del proceso de formación, responde a la lógica de la profesión, su contenido fundamental es investigativo laboral y “…se apoya en los aportes de las restantes disciplinas de la carrera y las asume en su integración para dar respuesta a las exigencias del quehacer profesional, asegurando el dominio de los modos de actuación esenciales de ese profesional” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Horruitiner, 2008</xref>).</p>
					</list-item>
					<list-item>
						<p>Apostar por el diseño y manejo metodológico de otras estrategias curriculares, para el caso de “…determinados conocimientos, habilidades, valores y modos de actuación profesional (…) que son claves en la formación integral de los estudiantes. Se trata de contenidos que no es posible abordarlos con la debida profundidad desde una sola disciplina y requieren del concurso de varias.” (MES, 2016, como se citó en <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Del Toro, 2016</xref>, p. 16). Entre esos contenidos se destacan el dominio de un idioma extranjero, el uso de las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones, el trabajo con la lengua materna, entre otros.</p>
					</list-item>
				</list>
			</p>
			<p>Asegurar también la pertinencia social de la facultad de Pedagogía, para coadyuvar a la integralidad en la formación de los docentes, implica considerar exigencias asociadas al cumplimiento de las metas del Objetivo 4 de Desarrollo sostenible, que apuntan a incluir dentro de sus contenidos: a) la educación para la ciudadanía mundial (ECM), b) la educación para el desarrollo sostenible (EDS); c) el tratamiento a la igualdad de género; d) la educación inclusiva; e) la educación sexual integral; f) el cambio climático, y; g) los derechos humanos (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Declaración de Incheon y Marco de Acción, 2015</xref>).</p>
		</sec>
		<sec sec-type="conclusions">
			<title>Conclusiones</title>
			<p>La sociedad ecuatoriana demanda a sus instituciones de educación superior, un sistema de formación que propenda progresivamente hacia la integralidad de sus profesionales, que les permita dar solución a los problemas más frecuentes de los centros donde se desempeñarán laboralmente. En el caso de la facultad de Pedagogía, el reto es mayor, por cuanto garantiza la formación de formadores de seres humanos, los que no pueden ser reprocesados como una materia prima inanimada, por lo que cada paso que realiza el maestro o profesor deja una huella difícil de borrar en sus educandos.</p>
			<p>La gestión curricular debe ser un proceso ininterrumpido, que pueda alinear el modelo educativo que construye con los estándares de calidad, cada vez más crecientes, cónsonos con las necesidades de los futuros docentes y la sociedad. Los retos para enfrentar dicha gestión están vinculados con los procesos estratégicos, clave y de apoyo de la facultad de Pedagogía de la Universidad “Luis Vargas Torres”, como expresión de la misión establecida para dicha alta casa de estudios.</p>
			<p>Los ajustes en la gestión curricular que se han de realizar en esta prestigiosa institución esmeraldeña, constituirán una valiosa contribución a los esfuerzos que llevan a cabo sus directivos, en función de la necesaria transformación del proceso formativo de los futuros docentes, al modificar un currículo que se caracterice por su flexibilidad, integralidad y pertinencia con las exigencias sociales. Entre esos retos, se reconocen como prioritarios, la identificación de los problemas profesionales que deberá enfrentar el profesional de la educación, el monitoreo sistemático de los resultados mediante la evaluación de sus procesos, la inclusión de contenidos como la preparación para la gestión en las instituciones educativas y otras estrategias curriculares, el diseño de tareas integradoras, vinculadas al escenario laboral y, las exigencias asociadas al cumplimiento de las metas asociadas a los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible hasta 2030.</p>

				<title>ABSTRACT</title>
				<p>One of the problems that limit a more comprehensive training of future teachers of the Pedagogy faculty are the insufficiencies in the curricular management of this training process. For this reason, this article aims to identify some challenges that teachers and managers must face in order to contribute to such integrality. Methods such as analysis-synthesis, content analysis and document review were used. The results point to a consensus on a set of challenges for the curriculum management process which, if addressed in a timely manner, can make the fulfillment of the University's mission more pertinent to its society.</p>

				<title>Introduction</title>
				<p>The “Report of the International Commission on the Futures of Education” states that “Teachers are the most significant factor in educational quality, provided they have sufficient recognition, preparation, support, resources, autonomy and opportunities for continuous development” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, 2022</xref>, p. 22). Hence the need of universities, and within them the faculties of pedagogy, to bet on a training that increasingly tends to the comprehensiveness of future teachers.</p>
				<p>Ecuadorian higher education, which is committed to the changes necessary to achieve this goal, has in this context the responsibility to “...contribute to the development and improvement of education at all levels, particularly through teacher training”, as stated in the World Declaration on Higher Education (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">World Conference on Higher Education, 1998</xref>, p. 101).</p>
				<p>Among the purposes and contents to be included in such training, the mastery of theoretical and methodological assumptions to deal with curriculum management is a priority if one aspires to achieve a comprehensive training of future educators. Such management is a complex process, since it involves the development of a set of actions that make the training process more pertinent. Therefore, a problem related to insufficiencies in curriculum management was identified in the Pedagogy faculty of the University “Luis Vargas Torres” of Esmeraldas, Ecuador, which limit the comprehensive training of future teachers.</p>
				<p>This problem can be addressed by identifying some of the challenges that must be faced in the curriculum management process of the Faculty of Education, as a fundamental condition to contribute to the comprehensive training of their students, which is the objective of this article.</p>
				<p>In line with the objective of the work, materials were selected that address the background of the object of research related to curriculum management in university careers, as well as others related to the comprehensive training of students of pedagogical careers, which appear in texts published in scientific journals indexed in SciELO and other relevant databases, as a premise for the use of documentary review and the theoretical methods of analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and content analysis. Together, they made it possible to delimit the features that define the fundamental concepts of the work, its importance, and some challenges for an adequate curricular management, with the participation of teachers and directors, in order to contribute to the pertinence of the training of future teachers of the pedagogical careers of this prestigious University.</p>

				<title>Development</title>
				<p>A conceptual analysis of the integral formation in the curricular management of the future teachers of the Pedagogy faculty demands the systematization of more general categories, from the formal logic, associated to the object of research of this work, such as: formation, integral formation of the educator, management and curricular management. The considerations derived from this study made possible the adoption of theoretical-methodological references and the proposal of some challenges for an adequate curriculum management, as guidelines that direct it towards the training of future teachers of the Pedagogy faculty.</p>
				<p>In the case of the definition of the training concept that is assumed, it is the one that establishes:</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>As a process and as a result, which is distinguished by its systematic (continuous) character, which is oriented to the acquisition, structuring and restructuring of behaviors from knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, under the guidance of previously set objectives and involves all dimensions of human development. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Del Toro, 2016</xref>, pp. 12 and 13)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>Con relación a la formación integral en la Tercera Conferencia Mundial de Educación Superior (Barcelona, 2022) se destaca que “Las instituciones de educación superior deben hacer hincapié en los valores y comportamientos éticos (…). Los valores positivos deben impregnar todos los programas académicos e instalarse en el ADN de la cultura institucional de todas las IES.” (UNESCO, 3rd World Conference on Higher Education, 2022, p. 25). Asimismo, se resalta la necesidad de evolucionar “De un enfoque restrictivo en la formación disciplinaria o profesional a una experiencia de aprendizaje integral del estudiante” (p. 28), entre los cambios que deben producirse en la educación superior contemporánea.</p>
				<p>Accordingly, integral formation is assumed as a “...quality in the current conceptions of the university as a social institution” that:</p>
				<p>It expresses the pretension of focusing the work of universities on the formation of values in professionals in a fuller way, providing them with qualities of high human significance, capable of understanding the need to put their knowledge at the service of society instead of using it only for their personal benefit. It also implies the need to achieve a creative, independent professional, prepared to assume his or her self-education throughout life (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Horruitiner, 2008</xref>, pp. 3 and 4).</p>
				<p>In the case of the concept of management, it is assumed by the authors of this article as a social process of influences, of a strategic nature, to lead processes and people towards the achievement of objectives agreed upon by all participants. To achieve this, it is necessary to fulfill functions such as planning, organization, decision making, control and evaluation.</p>
				<p>Likewise, curriculum management, which is a limited concept of the concept of management, from the formal logic, has been defined by researchers such as <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Bedoya et al. (2021</xref>); <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Crespo-Cabuto, et al. (2021</xref>); <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Villegas &amp; Valderrama (2021</xref>); among others.</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Bedoya et al. (2021</xref>), who equates this term with pedagogical management, concludes in their studies with the assertion that it is impossible to speak of educational quality without addressing the necessary curricular changes aimed at greater comprehensiveness in the training of professionals.</p>
				<p>For their part, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Villegas &amp; Valderrama (2021</xref>) emphasize management in curricular teaching activity, which they assume as</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>...a concept that integrates a set of commitments and actions that take place both inside and outside the classroom. It is intended to promote student learning in terms of achieving the learning outcomes and competencies defined in the graduate profile, in a given institutional context. Thus, it is possible to indicate that the teaching-curricular activity involves, among other aspects: 1) the coordination, management and planning of teaching; 2) the deployment of teaching methods; 3) learning and assessment activities; 4) the subsequent review and improvement of the actions carried out; 5) the quality of what is offered to the students, and 6) the involvement of curricular orientation, which assumes its value for what it contributes to good university teaching. (pp. 160 and 161)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>In the opinion of the authors of this paper, curriculum management in the specific case of the Faculty of Education of the University “Luis Vargas Torres” of Esmeraldas, Ecuador, should have a general impact on the study plans, the strategic project of the faculty, the methods and techniques defined for the achievement of the objectives, the professional model, the teaching process plan, the programs of the disciplines and subjects, and the institutional policies.</p>
				<p>Likewise, attention must be paid to the adequate management of the components of the organizational culture, such as: traditions, customs, values, beliefs, relationships between the different factors that influence the training process and make life in the Faculty, rules and regulations. Likewise, it cannot disregard the ongoing training of the faculty, as an indispensable condition to achieve the comprehensive training to which we aspire.</p>
				<p>It is also necessary to consider the existence of two types of curricula, the implicit or hidden and the explicit. The explicit curriculum contains what is intentionally declared in a planned manner for the achievement of objectives; the hidden curriculum encompasses everything that influences the achievement of these objectives, spontaneously and more or less decisively. Therefore, it is necessary, in the process of curriculum management, to improve the system of control and evaluation of the different processes that take place in the School of Pedagogy and their impact on the integral formation of its future teachers.</p>
				<p>As a culmination of the study carried out, the following is a synthesis of the contributions of the researchers, which reflect a consensus on some of the challenges that should be considered by a curricular management that bets on the educational quality and tends towards an integral formation of the future teachers of the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University “Luis Vargas Torres”, namely:</p>
				<p>
					<list list-type="bullet">
						<list-item>
							<p>To achieve coherence in the identification of the professional problems addressed in the curriculum, leading to the development of competencies that will enable future teachers to meet the real needs of the institutions where they will work. This would be close to a true social relevance of the curriculum (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Crespo-Cabuto, et al., 2021</xref>). As <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Bedoya et al. (2021</xref>) state, universities “...must design and implement curricula that are in line with their reality.” (p. 212)</p>
						</list-item>
						<list-item>
							<p>Systematically monitor, through evaluation mechanisms, the results of curriculum management, as an expression of continuous improvement and of a proactive and non-conforming management with the results achieved, in addition to serving as a reference for the changes to be made in the development of the substantive processes of training, research and linkage with society (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Crespo-Cabuto, et al., 2021</xref>).</p>
						</list-item>
						<list-item>
							<p>Also, in the process of redesigning the curricula of pedagogical careers, consider, among its contents, preparation for management in educational institutions (without the premature intention of believing that once graduated, the teacher could perform as a school principal), but as a curricular strategy that helps to favor the training of future educators for the management of the educational process and other processes that they will have to lead, whether or not they assume a managerial responsibility. These contents would drive the formative process towards a more comprehensive training, for life (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Del Toro and Valiente, 2019</xref>).</p>
						</list-item>
						<list-item>
							<p>Promote the design of integrating tasks that converge in a main discipline of the curriculum, directly linked to the work practice of future teachers in the institutions where they will develop their professional pedagogical activity. To achieve this, it will be essential to carry out a methodological teaching work that holistically guides what the student is expected to do in that training scenario (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Del Toro, 2016</xref>; Del Toro and Valiente, 2019 and <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Horruitiner, 2008</xref>). </p>
						</list-item>
						<list-item>
							<p>The main integrating discipline constitutes the backbone of the training process, it responds to the logic of the profession, its fundamental content is labor research and “...it relies on the contributions of the remaining disciplines of the career and assumes them in their integration to respond to the demands of professional work, ensuring the mastery of the essential modes of action of that professional” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Horruitiner, 2008</xref>).</p>
						</list-item>
						<list-item>
							<p>Betting on the design and methodological management of other curricular strategies, in the case of “...certain knowledge, skills, values and modes of professional performance (...) that are key in the comprehensive training of students. These are contents that it is not possible to address them with due depth from a single discipline and require the competition of several.” (MES, 2016, as cited in <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Del Toro, 2016</xref>, p. 16). Among these contents, the mastery of a foreign language, the use of information and communication technologies, work with the mother tongue, among others, stand out.</p>
						</list-item>
					</list>
				</p>
				<p>Ensuring also the social relevance of the Pedagogy faculty, in order to contribute to the integrality in the training of teachers, implies considering demands associated with the fulfillment of the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aim to include within its contents: (a) global citizenship education (GCED), (b) education for sustainable development (ESD); (c) addressing gender equality; (d) inclusive education; (e) comprehensive sexual education; (f) climate change, and; (g) human rights (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Incheon Declaration and Framework for Action, 2015</xref>).</p>
			</sec>
			<sec sec-type="conclusions">
				<title>Conclusions</title>
				<p>The Ecuadorian society demands from its higher education institutions a training system that progressively tends towards the integrality of its professionals, which allows them to provide solutions to the most frequent problems of the centers where they will work. In the case of the Pedagogy faculty, the challenge is greater, since it guarantees the formation of trainers of human beings, who cannot be reprocessed as an inanimate raw material, so that each step taken by the teacher or professor leaves a mark that is difficult to erase in their students.</p>
				<p>Curriculum management must be an uninterrupted process that can align the educational model it builds with the ever-increasing quality standards, in line with the needs of future teachers and society. The challenges to face such management are linked to the strategic, key and support processes of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University “Luis Vargas Torres”, as an expression of the mission established for such high house of studies.</p>
				<p>The adjustments in the curricular management to be carried out in this prestigious institution in Esmeraldas, will constitute a valuable contribution to the efforts made by its directors, in terms of the necessary transformation of the training process of future teachers, by modifying a curriculum that is characterized by its flexibility, comprehensiveness and relevance to social demands. Among these challenges, priority is given to the identification of the professional problems that education professionals will have to face, the systematic monitoring of results through the evaluation of their processes, the inclusion of contents such as preparation for management in educational institutions and other curricular strategies, the design of integrating tasks linked to the work scenario and the demands associated with the fulfillment of the goals associated with the sustainable development objectives up to 2030.</p>
