En la tesina se realizó un estudio coasis experimental de intervención educativa con la finalidad de elevar el nivel de conocimiento sobre las periodontopatías en escolares pertenecientes a la Secundaria Básica “Leovigildo Ramírez” del área de salud Báguanos, provincia Holguín, en el período comprendido de octubre del 2015 a enero del 2016. Se efectuó la intervención educativa en sus tres etapas: diagnóstica, de intervención y de evaluación. Antes y después de la intervención se aplicó un cuestionario confeccionado por la autora para medir el nivel de conocimientos sobre periodontopatías. (
La obra tiene como objetivo elevar el nivel de conocimientos sobre periodontopatías en adolescentes pertenecientes a la Secundaria Básica “Leovigildo Ramírez” del municipio Báguanos en el período de octubre del 2015 a enero del 2016.
Se utilizó el Teorema de McNemar puesto que es la única prueba estadística que permite decidir si puede o no aceptarse que un determinado ´´tratamiento´´ induce un cambio en la respuesta dicotómica de los elementos sometidos al mismo, y es aplicable a los diseños del tipo ´´antes y después´´.
Se describieron los resultados de las tablas y se compararon con los de otros estudios sobre la base de un análisis inductivo-deductivo que permitió dar salida a los objetivos propuestos, emitir conclusiones y formular las recomendaciones.
La investigadora de esta tesina recomienda reforzar las actividades de promoción y prevención, dirigidas a los adolescentes, con el fin de elevar su nivel de conocimientos sobre enfermedades periodontales y eliminar factores de riesgo, así como elaborar nuevas estrategias de intervenciones educativas en otras instituciones escolares que faciliten el trabajo con los adolescentes y logren un cambio positivo en sus actitudes en relación al cuidado de su salud para contribuir a la prevención de enfermedades.
Se realizó una amplia revisión bibliográfica sobre las enfermedades periodontales en los adolescentes y los factores que inciden en la aparición, utilizando la literatura nacional e internacional que se relacionan con el tema, en los diferentes sitios web y bibliotecas, que posibilitó el diseño de la metodología de esta investigación, así como el procesamiento de sus datos.
Concluye la autora que la intervención educativa fue efectiva puesto que se logró elevar el nivel de conocimiento sobre las periodontopatías y mejorar la higiene bucal en la población adolescente.

The work aims to raise the level of knowledge about periodontopathies in adolescents belonging to the Basic Secondary School "Leovigildo Ramírez" of the Báguanos municipality in the period from October 2015 to January 2016.

The results of the tables were described and compared with those of other studies on the basis of an inductive-deductive analysis that allowed the proposed objectives to be met, conclusions to be drawn and recommendations to be formulated.
The researcher of this dissertation recommends reinforcing promotion and prevention activities aimed at adolescents in order to raise their level of knowledge about periodontal diseases and eliminate risk factors, as well as developing new strategies for educational interventions in other schools to facilitate the work with adolescents and achieve a positive change in their attitudes in relation to their health care in order to contribute to the prevention of diseases.
A wide bibliographic review was carried out on periodontal diseases in adolescents and the factors that affect their appearance, using national and international literature related to the subject, in different websites and libraries, which made possible the design of the methodology of this research, as well as the processing of its data.
The author concludes that the educational intervention was effective in raising the level of knowledge about periodontopathies and improving oral hygiene in the adolescent population.
