         <title>Introducción</title>

         <p>En el devenir de la humanidad la educación ha desempeñado un papel imprescindible en la transmisión, de una generación a otra, de saberes y experiencias. Diversos han sido los caminos del conocimiento que conducen a una rica herencia cultural reflejada en las diferentes esferas de la vida.</p>
         <p>Dentro de este conocimiento cultural heredado se encuentra la música, elemento clave en la vida del ser humano, la que en su desarrollo histórico se ha distinguido por el quehacer de instituciones e individuos que han legado una gran diversidad y riqueza musical demostrada en la calidad interpretativa y en la composición de importantes obras que representan estilos y tendencias particulares del devenir histórico-musical, y otros, maestros que pautaron el camino en la enseñanza para llegar al desarrollo alcanzado en el presente. </p>
         <p>En el caso particular de Cuba, resulta apreciable la riqueza intelectual del pensamiento -obra teórica y acción- de los más relevantes músico-pedagogos cubanos que demostraron un profundo sentido de identidad y pertenencia a nuestro país (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Rodríguez &amp; Barceló, 2009</xref>). Con su accionar, estos músico-pedagogos ejercieron influencia sobre el contexto social y condicionaron la proyección y formas de pensamiento hacia definiciones, tipos de comportamiento y vocaciones que se reflejaron en diversas esferas de la cultura y forman parte de la sociedad cubana. Sin embargo, aún resulta insuficiente la investigación y divulgación de la historia pedagógico-musical en el país, y aún más en los estudios locales.</p>
         <p>Estudiar el pensamiento pedagógico y educacional de la música del pasado en las localidades permite analizar, valorar e interpretar el accionar de los músicos-pedagogos en su contexto y develar sus contribuciones para las generaciones que les sucedieron. Con referencia a esto Senú, Naranjo, Torres y Oliva (como se citó en <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Oliva, Senú y Santiesteban, 2022</xref>) advierten acerca de la importancia de que los profesionales de hoy conozcan las tradiciones educacionales y tomen de ellas las experiencias positivas para lograr mejores resultados en su labor educativa. Lo anterior permite resaltar el valor del conocimiento y divulgación de la memoria histórico-pedagógica de la música como contribución a la cultura e identidad local y nacional.</p>
         <p>Conforme con lo expresado, en este artículo se aborda el proceso del pensamiento musical-pedagógico en el contexto de Santiago de Cuba durante el periodo comprendido entre el siglo XIX y la primera mitad del XX, motivado por la observación de limitaciones para abordar el tema en la docencia, que pone de manifiesto poco saber de lo acontecido en las localidades del país.</p>
         <p>Estas fisuras teórico-prácticas de los programas de estudio limitan el desempeño de los profesionales de la enseñanza, así como el conocimiento de los estudiantes y, por ende, el análisis, comprensión e interpretación de la música, pues para una adecuada enseñanza musical, se necesitan referentes históricos que preserven el valor de destacadas personalidades e instituciones que legaron novedosas contribuciones a esta práctica y que en la actualidad son poco conocidas. </p>
         <p>Como objetivo se propone desarrollar una estrategia de superación para la transmisión de este contenido a los profesionales de la enseñanza de la música a partir del análisis de las ideas fundamentales de las concepciones y métodos pedagógicos que marcaron pauta en el desarrollo social, contextualizado en su momento histórico. Asimismo, se valora los posibles aportes o contribución al proceso educativo actual, se realiza un análisis de los aspectos más significativos del proceso de la enseñanza de la música, a la vez que se revelan las características históricas de ese proceso pedagógico.</p>
         <p>De la revisión bibliográfica se pudo constatar que referido a la enseñanza musical en el contexto nacional se encuentran los trabajos de diferentes autores, entre los que destacan <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Rodríguez y Barceló (2009)</xref> entre otros. En el contexto de Santiago de Cuba se observaron tesis de grado o maestría que puntualmente trabajan la biografía de un músico, la historia de instituciones o eventos, así como cuestiones didácticas de la música, pero no enfatizan en el proceso histórico pedagógico-musical, salvo <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Ramos (2012)</xref> que realiza un acercamiento a la historia de la enseñanza musical y <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Borlot (2016)</xref> que sistematiza las concepciones histórico-pedagógicas de la educación musical en un periodo determinado.</p>

         <title>Desarrollo</title>

         <p>
            <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Buenavilla (2002</xref>) plantea que el concepto de educador comprende no solo a los que se mueven en la esfera de la escuela y el sistema nacional de educación, sino aquellos que han ejercido una influencia educativa, aunque no propiamente desde el sistema escolar. Así, dentro de este concepto se pueden incluir maestros de cualquier procedencia académica, que en su contexto histórico-social alcanzaron prestigio o renombre ya sea por el empleo de métodos y técnicas, por su constancia y expresa sabiduría, su tacto y maestría pedagógica con sus alumnos, entre otras características que lo destacan o identifican como una persona honorable de la localidad, la región o incluso alcanzar reconocimiento nacional o internacional.</p>
         <p>También se reconocen como educadores personalidades políticas, o educadores sociales, que sin provenir específicamente de la enseñanza escolar, han ejercido una gran influencia en la educación y formación de las nuevas generaciones de sus países o pueblos, sobre todo por las altas responsabilidades sociales que han desempeñado, y porque han legado valiosas reflexiones, iniciativas y propuestas en el plano educacional que han provocado impulsos trascendentales a los sistemas educativos y pedagógicos de su tiempo y de tiempos futuros. </p>
         <p>A partir de estas reflexiones se comienza a valorar cuál fue y quienes constituyen un antecedente histórico-pedagógico en la enseñanza musical en Santiago de Cuba entre los siglos XIX e inicios del XX .</p>
         <p>El estudio realizado evidencia la necesidad, en el desarrollo del proceso de formación continua del profesional de la enseñanza de la música, de acciones de superación para transmitir el contenido referente al proceso histórico-pedagógico de la enseñanza de la música, partiendo de la insuficiencia cognitiva de los profesores. Las acciones a desarrollar tienen una naturaleza pedagógica, por lo que se diseña, desde un constructo teórico, una estrategia de superación profesional. </p>
         <p>Se concuerda con la definición ofrecida por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Márquez (2002)</xref> al plantear que una estrategia es un [...] sistema dinámico y flexible que se ejecuta de manera gradual y escalonada permitiendo una evaluación sistemática en la que intervienen de forma activa todos los participantes, haciendo énfasis no solo en los resultados, sino también en el desarrollo procesal. (II parte, p.1) </p>
         <p>La estrategia de superación que se propone presenta un carácter sistémico, dialéctico, interdisciplinario e interactivo, por cuanto garantiza el intercambio entre los especialistas-profesores que intervienen en el proceso de la superación en varios contextos de actuación. Asimismo, tiene en cuenta las bases epistémicas de ciencias y disciplinas como la Psicología, la Pedagogía y la Sociología, con énfasis en el análisis y comprensión del proceso pedagógico en estudio, dinamizadas en la superación.</p>
         <p>Su objetivo es: Desarrollar la superación profesional del docente de la música destacando la contribución de músico-pedagogos e instituciones al pensamiento musical-pedagógico en Santiago de Cuba, todo lo que favorecerá una proyección más integral en la formación de los profesionales desde una visión analítica e interpretativa.</p>
         <p>Todo esto teniendo en cuenta que la superación profesional tiene como objetivo contribuir a la educación permanente y la actualización sistemática de los graduados universitarios, el perfeccionamiento del desempeño de sus actividades profesionales y académicas, así como el enriquecimiento de su acervo cultural. (RM 140/19)</p>
         <p>Igualmente, se persigue contribuir al mejoramiento del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la música con acciones que propicien la superación y actualización del docente.</p>
         <p>Esta estrategia de superación profesional para el docente de la música se contextualiza en los centros de enseñanza musical de la provincia en los niveles elemental y medio, dirigida en un primer momento, a los profesores de la cátedra de asignaturas teórico musicales. Sus etapas quedan estructuradas de la siguiente forma:</p>
         <p>
            <list list-type="bullet">
               <list-item>
                  <p>Primera etapa: analítico organizativa</p>
               </list-item>
            </list>
         </p>
         <p>A esta etapa corresponde el momento de diagnosticar las necesidades cognitivas de los docentes con referencia al tema de investigación. De igual manera presupone la preparación de los docentes para su proyección temática de acuerdo al nivel de enseñanza que imparte.</p>
         <p>Para evaluar los niveles de preparación de los profesores se establecieron como indicadores los siguientes:</p>
         <p>
            <list list-type="bullet">
               <list-item>
                  <p>Competencia de los docentes en cuanto a la historia pedagógico-musical de la localidad. </p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Lugar que ocupa la historia de la música para rectorar la integración de contenidos en la especialidad de música.</p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Relación de los contenidos de la historia de la música como vías para identificar y planificar el trabajo investigativo-integrador con otras disciplinas.</p>
               </list-item>
            </list>
         </p>
         <p>A partir de este intercambio, se obtendrán elementos para el diagnóstico que, mediante la aplicación de instrumentos a profesores y directivos, así como la revisión de documentos; permitirá caracterizar el nivel de actualización de este personal en relación con el proceso histórico del pensamiento musical-pedagógico en la localidad.</p>
         <p>Desde el punto de vista temático las acciones de superación se dividen en dos momentos históricos: siglo XIX y primera mitad del siglo XX.</p>
         <p>
            <list list-type="bullet">
               <list-item>
                  <p>Segunda etapa: ejecución y socialización</p>
               </list-item>
            </list>
         </p>
         <p>Objetivo: Ejecutar acciones de entrenamiento encaminadas a la orientación de los docentes en cuanto a la utilización de métodos cualitativos para acercarse a la vida y obra de figuras representativas de la educación musical en el periodo estudiado. Asimismo, ejecutar talleres de reflexión e indagación acerca de esos educadores.</p>
         <p>A esta etapa corresponde el momento de la ejecución y socialización del proceso. De manera general presupone: </p>
         <p>
            <list list-type="bullet">
               <list-item>
                  <p>Realizar acciones de superación con los docentes para contextualizar el momento histórico-musical, así como las concepciones pedagógicas del mismo.</p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Propiciar la profundización de la vida y obra de las figuras representativas.</p>
               </list-item>
            </list>
         </p>
         <p>Las acciones fundamentales están encaminadas a la superación profesional del docente de la música; el establecimiento de un lenguaje común generalizado en el estudio de los músico-pedagogos; la auto preparación del profesor como acción continua para las actividades que realiza.</p>
         <p>En este momento de la investigación se planifican y ejecutan las siguientes formas organizativas de trabajo: entrenamiento con figura de posgrado, conferencias, talleres teórico-prácticos, así como la autosuperación dirigida, todas encaminados a la comprensión y el análisis de la importancia del conocimiento del sustento pedagógico que ha llegado hasta nuestros días, justificado por el rico legado de maestros como Esteban Salas, Juan París, Laureano Fuentes Matons, Rafael Salcedo, Pepe Sánchez, Miguel Matamoros, Dulce Mª Serret, Harold Gramatges y otros que han quedado olvidados en la historiografía musical de la Isla.</p>
         <p>Dentro del entrenamiento se facilita a los docentes métodos cualitativos para la investigación, fundamentalmente el de historia de vida donde, como explica <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Pujadas (1992</xref>), investigar la historia de vida de un sujeto requiere tener en cuenta no solo los relatos de su vida, sino cualquier otro tipo de información o documentación adicional que permita la reconstrucción de su biografía de la forma más exhaustiva y objetiva posible. </p>
         <p>Los talleres constituyen un lugar reflexivo, con intercambio de experiencias, y persiguen como objetivo principal indagar acerca de las figuras destacadas en la enseñanza de la música en la etapa concebida, así como ampliar la visión cognitiva en cuanto al estudio del contexto histórico en que vive cada uno de los músico-pedagogos estudiados, así como las corrientes del pensamiento y educativas que pudieron influir en su accionar y en su obra en general. Por ello se establecen criterios que permiten organizar el procedimiento a seguir en cada caso particular:</p>
         <p>
            <list list-type="bullet">
               <list-item>
                  <p>Determinar el contexto histórico-social y cultural de la figura educativa a estudiar, y de qué manera éste puede haber influido en su obra.</p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Significar la función de las instituciones sociales y académicas en el desarrollo de la enseñanza musical en los periodos estudiados</p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Realizar el estudio de la historia de vida del músico-pedagogo de estudio, lo que permite resaltar hechos más destacados de su vida.</p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Establecer una cronología de vida y obra educativa de la figura estudiada, identificando etapas o sub etapas por la que transcurrió su vida y su vínculo con hechos históricos. </p>
               </list-item>
               <list-item>
                  <p>Se enfatiza en el trabajo individual de los participantes para el estudio de pedagogos de sus disciplinas a través de la historia de vida de los mismos, su pensamiento musical-pedagógico y su accionar educativo. Aporte de los mismos en cuanto a métodos y/o obras para el uso como material de estudio (repertorio) en la actualidad.</p>
               </list-item>
            </list>
         </p>
         <p>De importancia resulta el trabajo que se realiza con las partituras legadas por esos educadores, las que son transcritas a escritura normalizada, analizadas de forma integral como una herramienta destinada a la construcción del conocimiento musical, estudiadas y finalmente socializadas en conciertos ofrecidos por profesores y estudiantes de las diversas disciplinas. Ello facilita el proceso de sistematización de las obras en la enseñanza.</p>
         <p>Igualmente se estimula y dirige a los profesores la búsqueda, desde la autosuperación, de características en las obras de los compositores estudiados para obtener regularidades estilísticas y del mismo modo revelar las dificultades técnico-interpretativas de las obras para el posterior trabajo con el estudiante, considerando las limitaciones y potencialidades de los mismos para enfrentar la interpretación. <p>Objetivo: Evaluar y valorar cómo se ha cumplido lo planificado para cada etapa, las acciones previstas, así como la receptividad y significado de lo proyectado para los profesionales que participaron. </p>
         <p>Teniendo en cuenta que la evaluación es tanto un proceso como un resultado, en esta etapa se evalúan los resultados de la estrategia aplicada, pues en todo el proceso se evaluó el proceder e implicación de los participantes, así como la valoración de las aportaciones de los músico-pedagogos estudiados desde el repertorio legado y su posible sistematización en la enseñanza musical. </p>
         <p>En este sentido se realizan acciones que garanticen un criterio valorativo como: la difusión de los estudios realizados sobre músico-pedagogos y la interpretación de su obra en los repertorios de la enseñanza. Asimismo, estimular en los docentes de la música la difusión en diferentes contextos el estudio de la investigación, aportes y ejecución de las obras de figuras representativas de la enseñanza musical en la localidad no solo del periodo trabajado en este artículo.</p>
         <p>Igualmente, es el momento de mostrar el trabajo investigativo realizado con la historia de vida de Laureano Fuentes Matons, importante músico-pedagogo del siglo XIX, y significar su contribución a la pedagogía musical cubana que amplía el repertorio para la interpretación en diversas disciplinas y el espectro musico-sonoro de ese periodo. Del mismo modo, intercambiar con los docentes respecto a la transcripción de sus obras para una sistematización en la enseñanza.</p>
         <p>Por todo lo anterior se tiene en cuenta que a través de las acciones efectuadas se ha logrado un nivel superior en el conocimiento del tema relacionado con el estudio de los educadores de la enseñanza de la música en el siglo XIX y primera mitad del siglo XX, y de su contribución a la pedagogía musical.</p>

         <title>Conclusiones</title>

         <p>Encauzar el estudio de la historia y el pensamiento musical-pedagógico en Santiago de Cuba con un grupo de profesionales de la enseñanza de la música permitió evidenciar que existe limitados conocimientos referentes al tema, y a su vez reveló las potencialidades e insuficiencias que se presentan en el orden teórico-metodológico en los docentes.</p>
         <p>La estrategia para el estudio del pensamiento musical-pedagógico y figuras representativas de la enseñanza de la música en el siglo XIX y primera mitad del XX enriquece las investigaciones realizadas hasta el momento e incentiva la búsqueda y profundización de esta temática poco abordada desde el campo artístico-musical en la localidad.</p>
         <p>La labor de estudio y sistematización de la contribución de Laureano Fuentes Matons crea un precedente para los estudios de otras personalidades de la música desde la pedagogía no solo en el periodo aquí abordado. Además, constituye un aporte al patrimonio musical y contribuye a reafirmar el sentido de identidad y pertenencia a la localidad.</p>

            <p>This research deals with the historical-pedagogical process of music in Santiago de Cuba and the insufficient knowledge of the subject for its application in teaching. It aims at an improvement strategy for the transmission of this content to music teaching professionals, and to fulfill it, an analysis is carried out with emphasis on the fundamental ideas of the pedagogical conceptions and methods that have set the tone in social development, contextualized in its historical moment, as well as its contribution to the current educational process. The application of educational research methods and instruments made it possible to define the strategy.</p>

            <title>Introduction</title>

            <p>In the evolution of humanity, education has played an essential role in the transmission of knowledge and experiences from one generation to the next. Different paths of knowledge have led to a rich cultural heritage reflected in the different spheres of life.</p>
            <p>Within this inherited cultural knowledge is music, a key element in the life of the human being, which in its historical development has been distinguished by the work of institutions and individuals who have bequeathed a great diversity and musical richness demonstrated in the interpretative quality and composition of important works that represent particular styles and trends of the historical-musical evolution, and others, masters who have paved the way in teaching to reach the development reached in the present.</p>
            <p>In the particular case of Cuba, the intellectual wealth of thought -theoretical work and action- of the most relevant Cuban musician-pedagogues who demonstrated a deep sense of identity and belonging to our country is appreciable (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Rodríguez &amp; Barceló, 2009</xref>). Through their actions, these musician-pedagogues influenced the social context and conditioned the projection and ways of thinking towards definitions, types of behavior and vocations that were reflected in different spheres of culture and are part of Cuban society. However, there is still insufficient research and dissemination of pedagogical-musical history in the country, and even more in local studies.</p>
            <p>Studying the pedagogical and educational thought of the music of the past in the localities allows analyzing, valuing and interpreting the actions of the musicians-pedagogues in their context and unveiling their contributions for the generations that succeeded them. With reference to this, Senú, Naranjo, Torres and Oliva (as cited in <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Oliva, Senú and Santiesteban, 2022</xref>) warn about the importance of today's professionals knowing the educational traditions and taking from them the positive experiences to achieve better results in their educational work. This highlights the value of knowledge and dissemination of the historical-pedagogical memory of music as a contribution to local and national culture and identity.</p>
            <p>Accordingly, this article addresses the process of musical-pedagogical thinking in the context of Santiago de Cuba during the period between the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, motivated by the observation of limitations to address the issue in teaching, which reveals little knowledge of what happened in the localities of the country.</p>
            <p>These theoretical-practical cracks in the study programs limit the performance of teaching professionals, as well as the knowledge of students and, therefore, the analysis, understanding and interpretation of music, since for an adequate music teaching, historical references are needed to preserve the value of outstanding personalities and institutions that bequeathed novel contributions to this practice and that are currently little known.</p>
            <p>As an objective, it is proposed to develop an improvement strategy for the transmission of this content to music teaching professionals based on the analysis of the fundamental ideas of the pedagogical conceptions and methods that set the tone in social development, contextualized in its historical moment. Likewise, the possible contributions to the current educational process are evaluated, and an analysis of the most significant aspects of the music teaching process is made, while the historical characteristics of this pedagogical process are revealed.</p>
            <p>From the bibliographic review it could be seen that referred to music teaching in the national context are the works <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Rodríguez and Barceló (2009)</xref> among others. In the context of Santiago de Cuba, bachelor's or master's degree theses were observed that punctually work on the biography of a musician, the history of institutions or events, as well as didactic issues of music, but do not emphasize the historical pedagogical-musical process, except <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Ramos (2012)</xref> who makes an approach to the history of music teaching and <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Borlot (2016)</xref> who systematizes the historical-pedagogical conceptions of music education in a given period.</p>

            <p>
               <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Buenavilla (2002</xref>) states that the concept of educator includes not only those who move in the sphere of the school and the national education system, but also those who have exercised an educational influence, although not strictly speaking from the school system. Thus, within this concept we can include teachers of any academic background, who in their historical-social context achieved prestige or renown either by the use of methods and techniques, by their constancy and expressed wisdom, their tact and pedagogical mastery with their students, among other characteristics that highlight or identify them as an honorable person of the locality, the region or even achieve national or international recognition.</p>
            <p>Also recognized as educators are political personalities, or social educators, who without coming specifically from school education, have had a great influence on the education and formation of the new generations of their countries or peoples, especially because of the high social responsibilities they have performed, and because they have bequeathed valuable reflections, initiatives and proposals in the educational field that have caused transcendental impulses to the educational and pedagogical systems of their time and of future times.</p>
            <p>From these reflections, we begin to assess what was and who constituted a historical-pedagogical background in music teaching in Santiago de Cuba between the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.</p>
            <p>The study carried out evidences the need, in the development of the continuous training process of the music teaching professional, of improvement actions to transmit the content referring to the historical-pedagogical process of music teaching, starting from the cognitive insufficiency of the teachers. The actions to be developed have a pedagogical nature, so a professional improvement strategy is designed from a theoretical construct. </p>
            <p>We agree with the definition offered by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Márquez (2002)</xref> when he states that a strategy is a [...] dynamic and flexible system that is executed in a gradual and staggered manner, allowing a systematic evaluation in which all participants are actively involved, emphasizing not only the results, but also the procedural development. (Part II, p.1) </p>
            <p>The proposed improvement strategy presents a systemic, dialectic, interdisciplinary and interactive character, since it guarantees the exchange between specialists-teachers involved in the improvement process in various contexts of action. Likewise, it takes into account the epistemic bases of sciences and disciplines such as Psychology, Pedagogy and Sociology, with emphasis on the analysis and understanding of the pedagogical process under study, energized in self-improvement.</p>
            <p>Its objective is: To develop the professional improvement of music teachers by highlighting the contribution of musician-pedagogues and institutions to the musical-pedagogical thought in Santiago de Cuba, all of which will favor a more integral projection in the formation of professionals from an analytical and interpretative vision.</p>
            <p>All this taking into account that the professional improvement aims to contribute to the permanent education and systematic updating of university graduates, the improvement of the performance of their professional and academic activities, as well as the enrichment of their cultural heritage. (RM 140/19).</p>
            <p>Likewise, it aims to contribute to the improvement of the teaching-learning process of music with actions that promote the improvement and updating of teachers.</p>
            <p>This professional improvement strategy for music teachers is contextualized in the province's music teaching centers at the elementary and middle levels, initially aimed at teachers of music theory subjects. Its stages are structured as follows:</p>
            <p>
               <list list-type="bullet">
                  <list-item>
                     <p> First stage: analytical-organizational</p>
                  </list-item>
               </list>
            </p>
            <p>This stage corresponds to the moment of diagnosing the cognitive needs of the teachers with reference to the research topic. It also presupposes the preparation of the teachers for their thematic projection according to the level of teaching they provide.</p>
            <p>In order to evaluate the levels of preparation of the teachers, the following indicators were established:</p>
            <p>
               <list list-type="bullet">
                  <list-item>
                     <p>Teachers' competence in terms of the pedagogical-musical history of the locality. </p>
                  </list-item>
                  <list-item>
                     <p>Place of music history to guide the integration of contents in the music specialty.</p>
                  </list-item>
                  <list-item>
                     <p>Relationship of the contents of the history of music as ways to identify and plan the research-integrative work with other disciplines.</p>
                  </list-item>
               </list>
            </p>
            <p>From this exchange, elements will be obtained for the diagnosis that, through the application of instruments to teachers and directors, as well as the review of documents, will make it possible to characterize the level of updating of this personnel in relation to the historical process of musical-pedagogical thought in the locality.</p>
            <p>From the thematic point of view, the improvement actions are divided into two historical moments: the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.</p>

            </p>
            <p>Objective: To carry out training actions aimed at guiding teachers in the use of qualitative methods to approach the life and work of representative figures of musical education in the period studied. Also, to carry out workshops of reflection and inquiry about these educators.</p>
            <p>This stage corresponds to the moment of execution and socialization of the process. In general terms, it presupposes: </p>

               <list list-type="bullet">
                  <list-item>
                     <p>To carry out improvement actions with the teachers in order to contextualize the historical-musical moment, as well as the pedagogical conceptions of the same.</p>
                  </list-item>
                  <list-item>
                     <p>To promote the deepening of the life and work of the representative figures.</p>
                  </list-item>
               </list>
            </p>
            <p>The fundamental actions are aimed at the professional improvement of the music teacher; the establishment of a generalized common language in the study of the musician-pedagogues; the self-preparation of the teacher as a continuous action for the activities he/she carries out.</p>
            <p>At this stage of the research, the following organizational forms of work are planned and executed: training with postgraduate figure, conferences, theoretical-practical workshops, as well as directed self-improvement, all aimed at the understanding and analysis of the importance of the knowledge of the pedagogical support that has reached our days, justified by the rich legacy of teachers such as Esteban Salas, Juan París, Laureano Fuentes Matons, Rafael Salcedo, Pepe Sánchez, Miguel Matamoros, Dulce Mª Serret, Harold Gramatges and others that have been forgotten in the musical historiography of the Island.</p>
            <p>Within the training, teachers are provided with qualitative methods for research, fundamentally that of life history where, as <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Pujadas (1992</xref>) explains, investigating the life history of a subject requires taking into account not only the stories of his life, but any other type of information or additional documentation that allows the reconstruction of his biography in the most exhaustive and objective way possible.</p>
            <p>The workshops constitute a reflective place, with an exchange of experiences, and their main objective is to inquire about the outstanding figures in the teaching of music in the stage conceived, as well as to broaden the cognitive vision as regards the study of the historical context in which each of the musician-pedagogues studied lived, as well as the currents of thought and education that may have influenced their actions and their work in general. For this reason, criteria are established to organize the procedure to be followed in each particular case:</p>
            <p>

                  <list-item>

                     <p>Signify the role of social and academic institutions in the development of musical education in the periods studied.</p>

                  <list-item>
                     <p>To carry out the study of the life history of the musician-pedagogue under study, this allows highlighting the most outstanding facts of his life.</p>
                  </list-item>
                  <list-item>
                     <p>Establish a chronology of the life and educational work of the figure studied, identifying stages or sub-stages through which his life passed and his link with historical events. </p>

                  <list-item>
                     <p>Emphasis is placed on the individual work of the participants for the study of pedagogues of their disciplines through their life history, their musical-pedagogical thinking and their educational actions. Contribution of the same ones as for methods and/or works for the use as material of study (repertoire) at the present time.</p>

               </list>
            </p>
            <p>Of great importance is the work done with the scores bequeathed by these educators, which are transcribed into standardized writing, analyzed in a comprehensive manner as a tool for the construction of musical knowledge, studied and finally socialized in concerts offered by teachers and students of the various disciplines. This facilitates the process of systematization of the works in teaching.</p>
            <p>It also stimulates and directs teachers to search, from self-improvement, for characteristics in the works of the composers studied to obtain stylistic regularities and, in the same way, to reveal the technical and interpretative difficulties of the works for subsequent work with the student, considering their limitations and potential to face the interpretation (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Silva, Rodríguez &amp; Marín, 2021</xref>).</p>

                     <p> Third stage: Evaluation-assessment </p>

            <p>Objective: To evaluate and assess how what was planned for each stage has been fulfilled, the actions planned, as well as the receptivity and meaning of what was planned for the professionals who participated. </p>
            <p>Bearing in mind that evaluation is both a process and a result, in this stage the results of the applied strategy are evaluated, since throughout the process the participants' actions and involvement were evaluated, as well as the assessment of the contributions of the musician-pedagogues studied from the legacy repertoire and its possible systematization in music teaching. </p>
            <p>In this sense, actions are carried out to guarantee a valuation criterion such as: the dissemination of the studies carried out on musician-pedagogues and the interpretation of their work in the teaching repertoires. Likewise, to stimulate in music teachers the diffusion in different contexts of the study of the research, contributions and performance of the works of representative figures of musical education in the locality not only of the period worked on in this article.</p>
            <p>Likewise, it is the moment to show the research work carried out with the life history of Laureano Fuentes Matons, an important musician-pedagogue of the 19th century, and to signify his contribution to the Cuban musical pedagogy that widens the repertoire for the interpretation in diverse disciplines and the musical-sound spectrum of that period. Likewise, to exchange with teachers regarding the transcription of his works for a systematization in teaching.</p>
            <p>In view of the above, it is considered that through the actions carried out, a higher level of knowledge has been achieved on the subject related to the study of music teaching educators in the 19th century and first half of the 20th century, and their contribution to music pedagogy.</p>

            <title>Conclusions</title>

            <p>Channeling the study of the history and musical-pedagogical thought in Santiago de Cuba with a group of music teaching professionals allowed evidencing that there is limited knowledge on the subject, and at the same time revealed the potentialities and insufficiencies that are presented in the theoretical-methodological order in the teachers.</p>
            <p>The strategy for the study of musical-pedagogical thought and representative figures of music teaching in the 19th century and first half of the 20th century enriches the research carried out so far and encourages the search and deepening of this topic, which has been little approached from the artistic-musical field in the locality.</p>
            <p>The work of study and systematization of the contribution of Laureano Fuentes Matons creates a precedent for the studies of other personalities of the music from the pedagogy not only in the period here approached. In addition, it constitutes a contribution to the musical heritage and contributes to reaffirm the sense of identity and belonging to the locality.</p>
